D'Onofrio Interviews for Temple - Updated :-/ I haz a sad

I'll play along. If Coach D does take this job, then Jim Leavitt is the LBs coach at SF 49ers. Dude ****es defensive excellence and is as fiery as they come! Going up to the pros and being part of the 49ers staff also is a big plus. Before any of you mention that he choked a kid while at USF, and UM wouldnt touch him, that was never proven or substantiated.

first we gotta get rid of Donofrio

THEN we can worry about getting a DC.

I just find this hard to believe. If it's true great but I just don't believe it. But dorito has had garbage to work with so im not fully sold that he sucks but am concerned. This next season will let us know

I would do ******* backflips but sadly I don't see it happening. I think he is going to get some NFL jobs but he may want to return to college.

No offense, those of you that think Golden is trying to pawn off D'Onfrio to get rid of him don't understand their relationship or philosophies.

Go on. Give some of this insight you have.

D'Onfrio has been his DC for 7 years (assistant HC for 4), they turned around Temple's D together. They have the same defensive philosophies.

If you think Golden is going to fire/try to pawn off D'Onofrio after a bad year then you are going to be disappointed.

Maybe he's trying to help out his friend by getting him a HC gig? Either way, he'll be gone and I'll be happy.

No doubt. Just laughing at some of the posters who think he is doing this because he wants to get rid of him.

Most people here want to blame coach D when Golden puts his stamp of approval on everything.

Golden even admitted he was the one who told Fisch to run up tempo offense and people were ****ed at Fisch all year for that.

I guess the Mob always needs their scapegoat.

If Golden is trying to get him the Temple gig then he's just helping his friend out. I would honestly rather keep D unless we're able to get someone like Leavitt who has shown to have good defenses and has SFLA connects. Idk how realistic it is that we could get him though.

Anyone else besides me want D'Onofrio here next year?

I think with another year of growth for our young team, and a third year of coaching continuity, we'll see a lot of improvement.

I like D'Onofrio's potential, and I think he will be better as the players develop. All schemes are personnel dependent, and if anyone on here doesn't believe that then they should be pistol whipped.

Leavitt is a homerun hire as a DC for whoever gets him, and someone will eventually. Think about this though: a lot of people are saying that the players don't love D'Onofrio's no BS approach and how much he yells. Leavitt got fired for allegedly physically abusing a player.

I'm actually fairly neutral on D'Onofrio. I don't think he's had much to work with so it's difficult to judge him objectively, but on the other hand, our defense was absolutely horrific this year so I can understand why some are ready to pack his bags and drive him to the airport. The one thing I do like about him is that our defense does seem to be more "physical" than it has been for quite some time. I'm seeing fewer arm tackles and more solid contact out of our defense although admittedly that's a pretty subjective statement. Ultimately if he stays I won't be p*ssed but if he leaves I won't be broken up about it either.

if we bring in a new DC it is likely that it would signal a new defensive philosophy and scheme and that AG was basically gonna be relatively hands off and play mostly a CEO role. unless he hired someone under the same defensive coaching tree, but in that case I dont really see anything to be excited about since it would be a new guy running the same scheme

This, don't know why many of you are jumping the gun to suggestions on the possible replacement, I doubt coach D is even selected as the next HC of Temple

I have a hard time believing Golden is endorsing DonofFreo to Temple. It his his most important defensive recruiting class since his arrival. Continuity is key. No one wants to have uncertainty at the coordinator level in the last three months until NSD.

If Golden thinks now is a good time for Coach D to become a head coach, he would most likely not be selfish and try to keep him. I would expect this of most coaches, never mind when the coaches are best friends.

This. You never want to be seen as potentially holding someone back in the coaching community. It could discourage future up-and-coming coaches from signing on.

No way. Not possible. It's because of the youth and the trash we had on DL. Not DC coaching at all.
