Donna Shalala's Recruits

I know (or remember) the story about Foote being apathetic to football, but at least he or someone on board hired a very
good AD in Sam Jankovich.
It's been nothing but trash after him, and I am including Paul Dee.
You may be right about the BOT carrying more of the blame.
I am not an expert on this and you probably know about the dynamics at play.
But I do know that this mess is on the people that hired the AD.

Foote wasn't apathetic. He wanted to shut it down. When was the last time you watched The U Part 1?

I'm with you on Dee. I don't think he was great either. People balk at me on here when I say Blake is the best AD we've had in years, and it's absolutely true. The bar isn't high.

I don't rely much on "The U" show.
Honestly, I think it's a joke, it is somewhat of a minstrel show that oversimplifies that era.
And that director is an *******.
But I can understand why the younger crowd would appreciate that production.

THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNIVERSITY DOES NOT HIRE AND FIRE COACHES

Jesus tapdancing Christ.

Shalala was brought on to be a fundraiser. That's what she did, and she was great at it.

End of story.

You are misinformed. The president hires athletic directors to hire and Fire coaches. However, the president retains power to check the athletic director if they are not doing their jobs. If it was not that way, athletic directors would never get fired.

If you were anywhere near the []__[] when she was or knew her you'd know she cared. This narrative you're selling typically comes from the people furthest away from the program and least connected to the University, who may have never set foot on campus.

But carry on..

Fortunately, I graduated before that troll became president.

OK... let me get this totally straight.

I said the Pres does not hire and fire head coaches.

You tell me I'm misinformed.

You tell me the Pres hires and fires AD's. And AD's hire and fire HC's.

And I'm misinformed?

I am extremely well aware as to how a large institutional chain of command works. Your "checks and balances" argument does not mean I'm misinformed, at all.

UM sits in a fertile recruiting ground for college football. Everyone knows that. He knows he will never win a National Championship at UCF. He can at Miami.

Youre implying south of the I-4 corridor is somewhat offlimits to UCF recruiting. That is def not case, especially right now.

When Shalala was at Wisconsin, she hired Barry Alvarez whose been our daddy since. As the university president, her job is to make the school a better academic institution and she did that. She’s made some bad hires at AD, but you all make it seem as if she’s trying to kill the athletic department.

Hear me out. Most people are quick to point out Al Golden's recruits. Truthfully, the recruits that Al Golden signed or that was committed to him when he was fired have carried this team.

However, what is not discussed is Donna Shalala effect on our football program. Donna Shalala did not give a **** about sports and our two major sports, football and baseball, took dives during her tenure.

Let's talk about Donna Shalala Recruits. Bad athletic directors...Kirby Hocutt and Blake . These bums were Aces at making bad coaching hires. Jim Morris was retained 5+ years longer than he should have. We made numerous bad football hires. Blake James prematurely extended the last two head football coaches. ****, even the new head baseball coach hire was a lazy. That is the effect of Donna Shalala.

So, how do we fix the University of Miami's football and baseball programs? We need to get rid of Donna Shalala's recruits. Mark Richt is the product of Donna Shalala's recruits. When we replace Mark richt, we must replace Blake James. We need to remove any connection to Donna Shalala.

365 days ago everyone on this board was literally gulping Blake James for the season, the IPF and the investment. Now he's the enemy of the state.

The real issue is as a fanbase we have been clammoring for competitive football since about 2004, so 14 painful years. Two solid years of football and everyone thinks we are gonna destroy bama all of a sudden.

Any other TOP school in the nation would take this year as a down year, fire a few coaches, reaffirm support for the program and go and see how we do in 2019. The reason we cannot seem to do this as a collective (myself included) is because of the previous 14 years of horribleness. Richt wasnt the cause of that.

Sure I was expecting a miracle man as well, but it looks like we need more than just an SEC coach to turn the corner.

donna Shalala is a liberal and bought into the idea that football is too dangerous and needs to be neutered, and the "toxic masculinity" associated with football. If she had her way she probably would have just shut down the program altogether but knew that could not happen. So, whatever she could do to kill the program with her decision making, funding, and personnel placement she did. Like any good dictator she knew what to say in public, and said the right things at the right times. This gives the shalala apologist cover to say "see she cares about football". Meanwhile she has her jack boot on the throat of the program. And we see the results...she was wildly successful.

I've said this before - a leader of any large origination puts "their" people in place during their rule. Those people have the same mentality as the one who put them in place. That lasts LOOONG after the leader leaves.

Donna's biggest problem was her PC brain and her obsession to micromanage everything... she looked at everything as social experiment... her idea of success was to PC taint everything..

No one is disputing that she liked to win ... but not at the expense of her PC quest.. it is a mental disorder

Alright gotcha..aye I’m the only one who believes it wasn’t just Nevin behind shady ****..I believe that niga just snitched..no way he was the only rogue booster

Yeah no it’s not just Nevin it’s lots of wanna be Miami ballers that do it, but because of the city life style it’s just different here compared to a college town you can control the rifraf in

You could not be more correct!

If Donna is the liberal you say she is, it makes no sense to kill the football program. Miami was one of the first schools to offer poor, urban black kids a chance at an education. Those are the social projects that liberals love. In that case, Donna would want the football program to succeed. She might have made bad decisions, but she wouldn't have wanted to kill the program. Your argument makes no sense.

She cared deeply and that was the problem. She thought she understood it, and she did not. She was good for the University, but she was bad for Athletics.

I agree with your point, Sonny. But not for the reason you outlined.

Kirby Hocutt and Shawn Eichorst were seen as fast rising AD choices. They were on the fast track to being power players...and, they are...they both used Miami as a spring board to power broker football. Hocutt moved on to TTech and is now in the inner circle of the CFP committee. Eichorst bounced to Nebraska and even though it didn't work out, he's moved on to be the second in command at Texas in their AD. The problem was, after Paul Dee, there wasn't much stability at Miami...and it showed. Even down to Miami's own athletics website being so far behind the rest of College Football. It wasn't until we hired some dude from USF that our athletics website started getting modernized. This was the same athletic department that was harboring a dude that was stashing a ton of a child pornography on his work computer and "no one knew"...

So, I'll give Shalala credit...she did identify some risers...unfortunately, both of them just used Miami as a stepping stone, causing instability and they both suck at identifying coaches...a trait that has followed them to the Big XII...hiring MIKE RILEY cost Eichorst the Nebraska job. If Matt Wells fails at TTech, Hocutt is going to be finding a new cubicle, too.
