Donna Shalala's Recruits

This notion that Shalalalalala didn't care about sports absolutely baffles me.

Let's take a moment to compare her to her predecessor and successor.

Tad Foote HATED the football program. Tried to close it down. Wanted nothing to do with it, and may have been a big reason Jimmy Johnson bolted. Dude went to Yale, just like the idiotic @RightSaidFred claims to have. And neither knows anything about the football program.

Julio Frenk is Mexican and doesn't care at all about football. Barry Jackson recently confirmed as much.

I was at Miami in the Shalalalalala tenure. She was ALWAYS at games. Football, basketball, baseball. Always. She even penned that amazing f#$k you letter to the NCAA.

I'm not going to sit here and claim she was some college athletics guru (Hocutt was an atrocious hire), but she definitely cared and the perpetuation of the notion that she didn't is based in ignorance.

I cannot emphasize this enough: The BoT has MUCH more influence on the HC hire than the President does.

Sooo you under the impression that nothing shady was going on under Butch?? Can’t be that naive..the paper trail for Shapiro starts in “02 but U ca f believe he was the only rogue booster with the classes we was pulling under butch in the latter 90s ..inI’m not even holding that against none of the coaches..we just got caught with a snitch..but I’m not naive enough to think Shapiro was the only rogue and began with Coker’s era..are Best classes were hauled by Butch..

Why did Tad Foote hate the program? Because a 30-for-30 episode told you so?

Dude, filmmakers are in the business of drumming up drama. It makes their shows more interesting. Don’t believe everything you see on TV.

We won multiple ships while Tad Foote was president. We had a badass AD, and a series of badass head coaches.

We had all of the things under Tad Foote that we fans would kill to have today.

The proof is in the pudding.

Butch had to deal with the loss of 33 scholarships.. He didn't have room to be Shady

Donna Shalala hated Sports. Look what she allowed to happen to the baseball program. Morris should have been replaced over five years ago.

If you were anywhere near the []__[] when she was or knew her you'd know she cared. This narrative you're selling typically comes from the people furthest away from the program and least connected to the University, who may have never set foot on campus.

Sorry fella, with all due respect, she was terrible for UM athletics.
She may have showed up for games wearing her dorky UM gear and capri pants, but so what?
She allowed UM athletics to die a slow death.
Her showing up to games is like a lazy manager slapping on his jacket and appearing at photo-ops for
employees who actually worked their tails off.
As for her writing that scathing letter to the NCAA, if she had had a competent athletic department, there would not have
been a Nevin Shapiro dragging UM athletics and university into an embarassing scandal.
She was a plague.
I can't believe that troll got elected to office.

However, what is not discussed is Donna Shalala effect on our football program. Donna Shalala did not give a **** about sports and our two major sports, football and baseball, took dives during her tenure.

Let's talk about Donna Shalala Recruits. Bad athletic directors...Kirby Hocutt and Blake . These bums were Aces at making bad coaching hires. Jim Morris was retained 5+ years longer than he should have. We made numerous bad football hires. Blake James prematurely extended the last two head football coaches. ****, even the new head baseball coach hire was a lazy. That is the effect of Donna Shalala.

So, how do we fix the University of Miami's football and baseball programs? We need to get rid of Donna Shalala's recruits. Mark Richt is the product of Donna Shalala's recruits. When we replace Mark richt, we must replace Blake James. We need to remove any connection to Donna Shalala.

And why would the UCF AD want this job when right now he has a bigger program to oversee?

White has serious bloodlines and connections....he’ll do his thing at UCF and move on to a big time program that is serious about athletics.

Look, I admitted I'm not saying she was great at it or knew what she was doing. Maybe she didn't even "care" so much as realize as a professional that supporting athletics is good for the school. Again, the BoT has a lot more to do with the athletics budget and high-level hires than the President. All I'm really saying is I find it hilarious that everyone piles on Donna when Foote wanted nothing to do with athletics and Frenk is apathetic, at best.

And really, considering the Pres has relatively limited on athletics overall, shouldn't the fault lie with the Board?

THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNIVERSITY DOES NOT HIRE AND FIRE COACHES

Jesus tapdancing Christ.

Shalala was brought on to be a fundraiser. That's what she did, and she was great at it.

End of story.

I know (or remember) the story about Foote being apathetic to football, but at least he or someone on board hired a very
good AD in Sam Jankovich.
It's been nothing but trash after him, and I am including Paul Dee.
You may be right about the BOT carrying more of the blame.
I am not an expert on this and you probably know more about the dynamics at play.
But I do know that this mess is on the people that hired the AD.
