Donna Shalala attack ad

You have some interesting knowledge of prison culture. I don't mean to imply anything. I know very little, fortunately. The only time I've been inside a prison was my first year in law school a graduate fellow at my school's criminal justice clinic needed a witness to go with her while she interviewed an inmate who was probably involved in a crime for which she was representing someone else. I want to Lorton which is a big prison for Washington DC. It was about a bunch of guys on the street who decided to steal a refrigerator from a vacant house. The whole thing was almost comical...the stuff the prisoner said, when the lawyer asked about other participants, and from what I understand, Judge Sirica's frustrated comments at a preliminary hearing. (Sirica's was famous for Watergate.) I really don't know why a federal district Court judge would be hearing a case which dealt with just a garden variety B&E and burglary.

LOL! I am cracking up at the stealing a fridge part. Ya I have never been arrested either lol, but most of my friends I grew up with did prison or jail bids so I know how it works in there.

Wasn’t it the board of trustees that basically set the budget for coaching hires? Pretty sure Donna wasn’t running the athletic department as much as some like to think. I’d never vote for her, but the ad is just garbage.

So you are saying the President of the University had no control of recourse allocation? You shouldn't be so naïve.

DS biggest problem was that she wanted to micromanage everything...
...and add her PC flavor to all her decisions.... her intentions may have been right but she messed areas she should have stayed out of....

So it is pure coincidence that the football program went from champs to chumps under her Presidency? And it is only now under Fenk that we are getting back to relevance? She was instrumental is the loss of Butch Davis and the cheap hires of Coker, Shannon, and Golden.

People say she was good for the school but what did she do out of the ordinary? Raise money? That is what a University President is supposed to do. Buy an overpriced medical Hospital that bleeds money? Lost us the Orange Bowl?
Thanks, but I'll pass on anything Shalala.
I dont believe in coincidences she had alot to do with the footballprogram falling.

Foote was a massive ***** as was Shalala. I spent many nights inside of Richter. I would usually either work in the stacks basement or top floor or if I had someone to do work with I would reserve one of the study rooms on the second floor. Also, I am very happy Donna took the money from Nevin. We needed the money and he got a lot of elite players to come to our school. However, she was the one that wouldn't allocate money to the sports programs. She allowed these garbage ADs to have a job. That was all her fault. She was not in total control, but she allowed the **** show to continue under her watch.

Once again, no competent University President takes money from the general fund and gives it to athletics. It just doesn't happen, especially at schools like Miami, where athletics doesn't run the show. Usually, the athletic department is responsible for their own budget, and by that I mean whatever they earn/fundraise they get to spend. Period. They get some funding from the University(IE Student Fees), but other than that, the school shouldn't be subsidizing athletics.

By the way, Dr. Shalala, nor any other University President is a dictator. They serve at the pleasure of the BOT, who has the power to force changes in any department as they see fit. The BOT, or should I say the athletically inclined members of that body could and should have been more proactive in regards to athletics. They didn't do anything as the arms race heated up, they sure as heck didn't step up and start writing checks themselves.

That's how it is supposed to work. To expect Dr. Shalala or any other University President to keep their finger on that department is a fool's errand. It isn't done for a reason, because their primary job is to raise money for the parts of the University that isn't featured on television every **** week.

IIRC the NCAA could have come down harder on The U for the Shapiro scandal. Donna stared down the NCAA and the NCAA blinked. Like her or not, she's in deep with the Clinton Cartel and that's not by being weak.

Ahh yes, the ole arsonist who put out the blaze argument. Gee Donna, thanks for not getting us the death penalty. We’re so grateful.

This is about the trustees INFINITELY MORE than the school President.

Y'all need to learn something about college administration before opening your mouths on it.

I'm not a Shalalalala supporter but making her the scapegoat for Miami's troubles is beyond ignorant.

Don't worry, we hate the BOT too. Especially since they hired and never fired that witch. That said, it is beyond simplicity to think that the President of today's universities are not in control and virtual dictators. She drove the massive move into health care at the expense of everything else -- not just football. Could the BOT have stopped her? Sure, they could have fired her anytime. They certainly are co-conspirators but she was the leader. You are right, it has always been the BOT's fault but that doesn't not excused their hired guns.

I think we succeeded in '80's despite Tad Foote. He wanted to change the culture and stiffen academic requirements for athletes. I notice that we rarely have academically weak recruits anymore. Maybe the current generation of high school athletes takes academics more seriously.

Or maybe asking kids to be literate and possessing the ability to manage college level coursework wasn't that much of a **** ask. It's amazing how many dumbasses complain about Miami having a standard beyond the laughably low NCAA requirements. Frankly, if you can't get into Miami as a student-athlete, you are either pathetically lazy(Which is usually the case), or showing early signs of CTE.

There are two type of Miami fans. There are people that actually understand what a University President does, and because of that have a ton of respect for Dr. Shalala. Then you have the ones that think that Dr. Shalala actually sat around and tried to ***** the athletic department. We call those people morons.

It's amazing how many people think that she, nor anyone else was supposed to know something that the FBI and SEC couldn't figure out for YEARS. Let's be honest, most of our major boosters are unpleasant people, being filthy rich tends to make monsters out of most. If Nevin was legit, but a complete sleaze ball, and Dr. Shalala would have not accepted money from him, knowing full well that the athletic department desperately needed people to fund it, idiots would have been up in arms. She does it, guy turns out to be a con man, and people are still mad. It's like certain fans just want something, anything to be ****ed about.
I’m going to have to strongly disagree with you there chief lol

Holy **** our fans are stupid. The university (under Frenk) paid all that money on a search committee and came up with Greg Schiano as the answer. But you guys keep praising him and think that he’s the difference in the football program.

It’s not coincidence, it’s cause and effect. You bring money into athletics (joining the ACC, moving to HRC, switching to Adidas) and then you spend it (coaching, facilities). The only reason we’re getting an IPF is because of Richt and donors.

Chimp Schiano would have been a huge upgrade over Golden. That said, Richt was not available. As soon as Georgia **** canned him, we scooped him up.

He may have been a slight upgrade, but Schiano is an average to bad coach. We'd been going after Richt for the past decade, he just so happened to be fired when Frenk was President. I don't think anyone else's fans blame their President for success/failures as much as we do. Which is bizarre because the only key to our success is recruiting local talent.

She was running a university not a football program. She had Miami in the top 40 of all universities. Blaming a university president for a ****** football program (or Nevin Shapiro) is dumb. You think we dominated in the 80s because Tad Foote was some big football booster?

People here don't care to understand anything about the University. They only care about the football program, which is why there are so many problems here between fans and alumni. But they also don't understand how the University works and throw ***** at any possible common denominator.

She gets us in trouble with the NCAA, and then “saves us” by reducing the schollies penalty? This is staring down the ncaa? Lol

Typical politician to do the damage, and then swoop in afterwards to try and salababe what’s left of the University’s image.

And don’t think for a minute that she wasn’t part of the Nevin scandal. They knew all about Nevin, and had been warned on multiple occasions that he’s a cancer.

She ignored it because the checks were clearing.

Well, apparently I am misremembering
