Donaldson's future position

A lot depends on his physical development and technical refinement. It's apparent to me that Donaldson has the raw tools to be developed into a great player at any of the guard or tackle positions. While not necessarily refined for edge pass protection, he has the feet and athleticism needed for a LT. If he's to become a tackle, he will need to lose more weight, and balance out his body with more lower body strength as a base. Right now he's a little top heavy. Of course, he also needs to refine his technique in pass pro.

I can't make any guarantee as to where he'll end up, but IMO it would be foolish to put any limits as to what he can do -- way too much talent for that.

As for how our OL personnel shakes up moving forward, it would likely be most beneficial for our OL as a whole if he can bump out to tackle effectively. In this scenario, I'd imagine St. Louis is ready to make the transition to LT and Donaldson bumps out to RT.

St. Louis has developed greatly over the past 2 years and it will be interesting to see if he can continue to do so.

He needs to lose about 30 pounds. Too often he is one step late on pulls and getting to the second level. He's often top heavy and loses balance because of it.

Please note I'm not trying to attack him, he's a great prospect, he just has some things to work on first. He also doesn't really have the length of a LT. I'd leave him at RG and let him be an All-American there, but he'd also be very good as a RT if he gains some strength and flexibility.

Been saying this since signing day. He’s way too heavy to play outside. He’s a good athlete for his size but until he loses the weight and improves his footwork, he should stay at OG. I still think he needs to lose about 10-15 anyway. Quicker interior DL give him problems.

Also I wouldn’t be so quick to move St. Louis to LT. Also moving Gauthier from center would be very dumb. Guy has played **** good at the position. LG and LT(assuming St. Louis doesn’t move to LT) will be a battle in the spring.... Actually pretty worried about LT. Didn’t see the feet with Herbert to play LT. Hilery has the athleticism but needs A LOT of time in the weight room. LG will be a battle with the two freshman(Reed & Scaife), Mahoney(he’s actually improved a great deal since he’s been here), and Gaynor. Gaynor needs to hit that weight room hard this offseason.

Whats wrong with his footwork? It looks fine to me.
