Donaldson's future position

Next yr:

Lt: St Louis
LG: Guathier or Gaynor
C: Gauthier or Gaynor ....Id probably rather keep Gauthier at Center.
RG: Open Competition. Wouldn't be surprised to see Scaife win it. Mahoney sucked whenever he was in so hopefully not him.
RT: Donaldson

Why doesn’t anybody put Cleveland Reed into the guard convo? A lot People think higher of him than Scaife oitside of this board.

He's going to play tackle next year just purely out of need, and with an offseason of work why can't he become a great RT?

The plan is for donaldson to move to tackle but he has to get down to the weight that the coaches want.

and you saw the plan??? really???

Jackson reported on it i believe and somebody else i cant remember. But during a game this year one of the commentators mentioned too how the coaches see him as a tackle possibly down the line.

Scaife is enrolling early.

With how well he pulls at G why move him to tackle?

Tackle might be a big need next year. Dont know if herbert will be ready to start next year and the other tackles are questionable. The team will have interior guys with gauthier and gaynor. Then you have scaife and reed coming in.

Agree with this. Reed will have a say also.

He needs to lose about 30 pounds. Too often he is one step late on pulls and getting to the second level. He's often top heavy and loses balance because of it.

Please note I'm not trying to attack him, he's a great prospect, he just has some things to work on first. He also doesn't really have the length of a LT. I'd leave him at RG and let him be an All-American there, but he'd also be very good as a RT if he gains some strength and flexibility.

agree

think he stays inside, he has the feet to play tackle but he can be an elite guard. Hebert and Reed/Scaife's spring could have a factor

Why are folks so quick to move gauthier out of the C position? He’s been really solid and he’s one of the best gun snappers I’ve seen in here in a long time

I mean I didn't discount him or anything. Just mentioned I wouldn't be surprised to see Scaife win it. Then I said I just hope it's not Mahoney.

But I can pretty much guarantee 3 things:
1. Gauthier and Gaynor will be two of the 3 interior starting OL.
2. St Louis will move over to LT.
3. Donaldson Will Start

Given those 3 things, the only thing we don't know is which position, RG or RT Donaldson will play, and who will play the opposite position. But the answer to both will likely be who that 5th best OLineman is. If our 5th best OLineman is a Tackle (Herbert, Brown, Hillery, Jones, or a Frosh) then Donaldson will stay at RG. If our 5th best OLinman is a G (Mahoney, Frosh) then Donaldson will kick out to RT.

The safest prediction is probably that Mahoney and Gaynor start the season as our Guards, and St Louis and Donaldson are our Tackles because out of our 2nd string OL, Mahoney and Gaynor have gotten the most snaps - The other 2 OL on the 2 deep are Herbert and George Brown.

Been saying this since signing day. He’s way too heavy to play outside. He’s a good athlete for his size but until he loses the weight and improves his footwork, he should stay at OG. I still think he needs to lose about 10-15 anyway. Quicker interior DL give him problems.

Also I wouldn’t be so quick to move St. Louis to LT. Also moving Gauthier from center would be very dumb. Guy has played **** good at the position. LG and LT(assuming St. Louis doesn’t move to LT) will be a battle in the spring.... Actually pretty worried about LT. Didn’t see the feet with Herbert to play LT. Hilery has the athleticism but needs A LOT of time in the weight room. LG will be a battle with the two freshman(Reed & Scaife), Mahoney(he’s actually improved a great deal since he’s been here), and Gaynor. Gaynor needs to hit that weight room hard this offseason.

Do we leave Donaldson at guard and give Herbert a shot at RT?

Herbert is projected as a tackle so I would say yes. Herbert just needs to add weight and strength. He had an injury his senior year which delayed his development but he is a tackle all the way.

Seen Hillary on the Sideline boy does that kid look the part, no idea how is is progressing but you have hime and Brown...hopefully one of them makes the jump next year.

Sorry guys, but Donaldson's leaving early. Word has it he's been tabbed to hold up the sky when Atlas retires at the end of the year.
