An educated man I see. Great minds.
Go Canes!
Go Canes!
FullyERicht had Don Brown listed as one of his "best hires" and deemed the Diaz hire as horrible (to put it mildly). Here is a look at Brown and Diaz from 2009 to present. 2013 is excluded because Diaz was let go.
Average yards per game: Diaz-361 Brown- 332
Scoring Defense: Diaz- 23.8 Brown- 22.23
Of the 6 years, Diaz defenses gave up fewer points than Brown 3 times and vice versa. Even split.
So the difference between a horrible hire and a best hire is approximately 1.6 points per game and 29 yards per game over a six year period and an even split in head to head scoring defense by year.
Thats weak. You obviously didn't read this thread. https://www.canesinsight.com/thread/manny-diaz-breakdown-thread/96004
Whats the difference in the schemes they run? What are Browns weakness?
The numbers don't lie. Results are what matter. There is not a lot of difference in their results. I did not read that thread, and it doesn't change the numbers.
Nice try. Variable's matter as well. Talent base, conference... The difference here is Fully dug in and you're doing a very basic numbers compare. How are they in the advance stats compared to each other? That would be more telling.

I don't disagree. However, the NCAA has over 100 teams all with different talent levels. There will always be subjectivity involved, because with all the variables you can never be fully dug in. The point of the original post is this- To claim one as horrible and one as a defensive genius when the numbers are that close, is absurd. And, at the end of the day the most important number is always what's on the scoreboard, however basic that may be.
Dorito's defense was statistically the 14th best in the country in 2014 but no one on here will argue that he's a good DC. Some things are just common sense and come through on the field. I mean really.... Ryan Tannehill leads Cam Newton in certain important categories but who would you take?
After hiring Coach Kuligowski, nearly every choice left on defense would be a letdown. I'll give it a chance with Diaz because he's here now and I support our program but I'm not going to pretend that Harbaugh grabbing Don Brown 1st and Miles grabbing Dave Aranda 2nd, when Diaz was available to both, isn't telling of where they each stand in the coaching hierarchy. No point in continuing to pounce on the hire... It's done... but if it doesn't work out I'm going to expect our coach to deal with it expediently.

brown is the best dc in coll currently. diaz is a great hire but lets not kid ourselves. Brown is a homerun hire at dc.
excited for diaz though I think he will do great here but Brown is the best dc

No he's not. Good DC but there are better out there with more success at bigger programs. The guy is 60 years old and is just now getting a shot running the D at a major program.
I don't hate Diaz but this is silly.
Stats aside, Brown is a far superior coordinator.
Why is Brown the superior coordinator?
Have you seen his defense this year? And that was with only decent talent.

Stopping subpar ACC & FBS offenses with a veteran defense doesn't knock my socks off.
His OOC schedule was Maine, Howard & Northern Illinois (decent but lost by 48 in bowl game to Boise. Scored 7 pts).

Don has had a very interesting career. He has been a HC several times as well.
