DON’T KID YOURSELF

Not a correlation. Just because attendance is down doesn't mean people aren't watching on tv. People still buy UM gear. Why are we such a big deal to ESPN? Why a big deal to Adidas? Because we have 10 million people living in SF and nearly 30 million in the state. We are still a national brand.

And no one outside this board can name our starting running back. The U is a brand. Players in commercials can't use the U.

You my dude and all but you tripping on this one homie. Big markets have a lot more business.

Bama, uga and the schools of that ilk will always get theirs. But schools like UM and Usc with their markets will have a lot of options. Gives us a fighters chance, just keeping 5-6 extra studs home a class is enormous.

Same here fam, you're my brotha from anotha mutha, but you are smoking dro. lol.

Who's marketing us, playa? If you are attending a school w/o a strong following (see game attendance), where merchandise sales ain't popping, and furthermore, is not winning, this new plan ain't for you or it's fans.

Bro, unless we become marketable again, which means we start winning again, this means absolutely nothing for a recruit. We gotta take off the orange and green glasses. I noticed how everyone keeps comparing us to USC, but ARE NOT mentioning UCLA. Guess why?

Just b/c we're Miami don't mean we're The U right now. This would've been absolutely great in the 80's - 2000's. I beg to differ that this will benefit us in any way now under our current state.

It's about exposure. The top guys at those schools, the Tua's and the Juedy's will get theirs no doubt, but Saban is the biggest face of that team more than players. I bet if you asked even casual college football fans they couldn't name you 4 bama players over their entire run even with all their success. And even with all miamis struggles, if you play well your name gets out there, especially in sofl.

But a kid from Miami can start making money on his likeness as soon as he signs on the dotted line because he is known locally from his pop warner and high school days. At those schools he has to get on the field and make plays before he has that opportunity. Might take 2 years before he sees the field there. Advantage Miami with local stars.
How many businesses are going to have these 18 year old kids endorse them? Sorry but the answer is very few and none will pay anything meaningful.

Big market teams boosting a players profile is just a fact jack. That's why Ryan Tannenhill was swimming in money after being QB for the dolphins for so many years. Or why you couldn't go anywhere in town without seeing actual proven players like Cameron Wake's face plastered everywhere.

Yep. Playing in a big market team automatically means $$$$$$ for players

I work in Marketing for one of the leading global brands. UM's potential versus the public schools is colossal. Am tired of debating.

Look up, both, DMA and advertising dollars per DMA. Research Reach and Frequency and see where Miami lands. You need 1 individual in Miami to account for 40 others in Alabama........ You need 1 fanatic Bacardi to start paying. Carnival will pay and Di Mare will pay.

We CANNOT pay at present. Going from $0 to a typical Marketing budget will generate marked results.
I agree with your premise. At the very least, this gives us a fighting chance (depending on the details the NCAA puts in place). Your last sentence is the key...able to go from $0 to “something” alone should help us land an additional 3-5 studs per year that we are likely missing on now due to bags!

Just like the NFL they can wear the colors when it's a commercial or ad not having a relationship with the NFL. The school will allow it when a company is throwing money to it just like an NFL sponsor.

The key to individual players making the most is marketing and performance. But NO amount of positive marketing can improve a player's income if the performance is not there. Who will shell out their hard earned cash for an under achiever? Savvy players will understand they the only way they maximize their share of the pie is to achieve at the highest level every time they get on the field.

Waste of time debating with the gnome.

This is NOT about attendance. Attendance will improve because we will pay players, we will receive better players and we will win more often.

This is purely about Miami, which is one of the "hottest" brands in the country. A minute (very small) amount of people will pay exorbitant amounts to attract players to UM. The U is a very strong brand. My cousin from Pittsburgh just chose UM over Virginia and UNC (and her dad is a huge UVA booster).

Alabama has a Foundation to UM's $0.

For the love of everything Holy......... Has anyone seen the show: BALLERS! Watch a few episodes of BAllers and tell me that this does not immensely help UM.

We're completely ****ed. It's only going to benefit the fan bases that actually give a ****. At least we were already finished or this would have been a terrible day

Time will tell but I think OP will be proven right in the end. The traditional powerhouse schools and their highly motivated fan bases and alums will win the day.

Nothing to do with fanbase.

It is about the City and the Brand...... Watch a "Ballers" show.

We have a huge national following that will grow exponentially once we become elite. Yes, we will have a huge share of "band wagon" fans, but who cares.

You see 1,000 UM T-shirts in LA for every SEC T-shirt, and ALL trends start West and move East. Ask the clothiers on the site!

GET A CLUE, young school Cane. Miami, Florida Hurricane football USE TO HAVE A national following, but that's no longer the case!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! dUh.

I think everyone is jumping to a lot of speculation here, which is fun no doubt. We really don't have any details.

My prediction.

Whatever comes of this will help Miami either marginally or in a big way. It will also allow many other schools in the bag game or with large fan bases or booster networks to benefit even more than they do today. I would argue it won't negatively affect Miami or change much negatively in recruiting for Miami. I could be wrong. The program recruits anywhere from top ten to top 25 classes today. I would argue a top 25 class is still the floor.

If this is a free for all (which it won't be), then Miami does stand to benefit in a huge way if local players decide to stay home because they are already known locally and can leverage that for money in the local market. They can also use that local brand to then leverage themselves in a large TV market as they become known as college players. But if it is a free for all that also means every car dealership in Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, etc... is going to have every player doing car commercials in exchange for free cars so there's that.

No one knows yet what the rules or regulations or if their will even be a cap. But one thing is 💯 sure. Bama and the rest of the usual suspects will find a way to break them to their advantage.
I’m sure the if t Boone Pickens were around he would be buying a fck ton of jerseys right now.
However, there are a lot of you on here that don’t understand how much this city resonates nationally and internationally.
No one in south America or Europe is gonna wear a **** Alabama jersey. But they sure as **** will wear a Miami one. Alabama has not resonated well with the rest of America the way Miami did and likely will if we win. Maybe there are some marketing gurus on here that have access to merchandise sales. I can guarantee that their sales are concentrated heavily to the south. If Miami makes the playoffs we’re selling gear everywhere.
This administration if it’s worth a **** better be getting the sharpest minds in the business to start marketing the sht of this school. Adidas better have a tent pitched outside every sofla high right now.
