Dolphin moves - for you Phin fans

Dolphins are executing their 3 year plan to perfection. Tore the team down last year, and started to build a disciplined winning culture.

Built the trenches and got their QB of the future this year with all the capital they obtained tearing down.

Now next year they can add the “flashy” picks that many were complaining about not getting in this draft with the 70M in cap space and another 9 draft picks. This team is going to be built to be good for a long time. Gotta be happy with the the direction this organization is heading.
Just need to sit Tua until he's healthy and they can protect him.

This organization is now being run by an upgraded scouting department & the most up and coming HC in the nfl who possesses a keen eye for talent and commands the respect of his players. As far as this draft itself. Tua was the right guy for us. I wanted is to trade up for one of the elite tackles but we took a high upside project in Jackson. I love how we focused on the trenches and found value & scheme fits in various rounds. I knew some fans would ***** that we didn't take a rb or receiver but sometimes the board doesn't fall where the ones you like fall to you. I give Fins draft a B+ grade.
I agree, think you have to count the RB from San Fran as part of the draft too. Once they didn't get who they wanted that was probably the best option.

Breida for a 5th was a steal. There were no more decent backs on the board and he’s a good change of pace from Jordan Howard.

Miami has 2 first round picks and 2 second round picks in 2021, too.

I love getting Weaver where they did. Personally didn't want Tua at 5. That said, if he is the goods, the draft went well. OL picks better be ready sooner than later. Love most of the off season moves. Breida could be a stud.

The board fell just right to draft D. Swift with the 30th pick, but as always the phins reach on a corner with other pressing needs.

Didnt realize Reshad Jones was released. Always liked him, hope he still has some gas in the tank to play elsewhere.

It's not a reach if they took the player who is higher on their board and fits their defensive scheme rather than catering to a fictional board created by fans that usually is always skewed to offensive skill players.

Talking with all my friends who are Dolphin fans and they are not overly happy with their draft. Swift and Taylor mostly come up...and that super reach for the DB.

Is Swift at the bottom of the first round that much better than Breida at the top of the 5th?
Swift is special. I know he hasn't played a down in the nfl but neither has Tua and we're ecstatic about that move. We had a chance to have a duo of special talent with him and Tua.

I like Breida, so i don't want it to seem as if im against him. But do you think he has greatness potential? Swift does. Its done now and we're just analyzing the picks. I thought we missed an opportunity for something special.

I’m not a fan of taking an RB in the first round. Plus we are not ready to contend so part of me is glad we got Breida for a 5th and we aren’t wasting away the prime years of a top RB when we aren’t going anywhere, similar to how the Giants are wasting away Saquon. The shelf life of an RB is usually 5 seasons or so because it just doesn’t make sense to pay a 27 year old RB a huge second contract. Get the car first then buy the rims, not vice versa.

From your statement, i can tell you never played and/or a "whatever move they make is fine by me guy."

You have the nfl's 2 highest paid corners on the roster. Why is a corner higher on their board than a position of need. Do you know the qbs in the afc east, not exactly pro bowlers orrecord setters. Today's nfl requires 2 good dependable backs. Miss me with that skewed fan board bs and learn the game. Stop riding the gm / hc nuts cause you wanted something to say. Bring some substance and keep that other crap.

Dolphins Schedule:

Away: Arizona, Buffalo, Denver, Jacksonville, NE, Jets, 49ers, LV

Home: Buffalo, Jets, NE, KC, LA Chargers, LA Rams, Seattle, Cincinnati,

Potential Wins: Jets (maybe 2x), Cincinnati, JAX, Buffalo (at home), LV, LA Chargers, NE (at home)

That's about 8 wins. I don't think they get there. I think Miami goes 7-9 but one of those teams that "wins like their final 3 in a row and so there's a lot of optimism for the following season".
Agree with all. I'd add a win at NE also. Think Brady leaving will take the wind out of their sails for a while.

Miami is one of the top teams in Dime usage, which means 6 or more DBs on the field, in the league. The Dolphins have two of the highest paid corners and not much else behind them which is why they drafted a nickel corner over a RB. RB is a very expendable position and unless you already have a good OL, there's not much reason to spend a high pick on one especially if they're not in the same category as Saquan, Zeke, Mccaffery, etc.

The AFC East opponents account for 37% of the games played. You should build your team to beat the best team(s) in the league, not your division. And Miami now has Breida and Howard, two dependable backs...

One minor complaint in taking a nickelback in the end of the 1st round. With so many holes on the team, it would have been nice to see them get an every down starter somewhere else and reach for a nickelback later in the draft.

the way the dolphins play a “nickelback” is on the field 75% of the time, not to mention that kid for Auburn is a beast. Only pick I didn’t love was taking the saftey from Texas when we could have traded up three picks and gotten Ashton Davis from Cal.

True, but we don’t know whether the team 3 picks earlier was willing to trade down. Or maybe they wanted a 4th round pick to do so. The only thing I don’t like about Jones is he’s too small right now. He needs to add about 10 pounds to hold up in the pros. But he’s a smart player with good pedigree and zero character risk and a good tackler who plays ST, too.

I love all of it except "qb of the future"....I hope he proves me wrong and stays healthy, thereby justifying such a risky decision, but unless the Phins get an all world OL, he is going to miss playing behind a bought and paid for 5 star quality OL at Alabama, while still taking injuries doing that..

Two dependable backs.......on what f'n planet do you live on within today's passing nfl that you think having two capable corners is enough. Flores' defense utilizes nickel & dime looks heavily. What if howard or byron are hurt ? Then what ? You're relying on nick needham & tankersley. They took best player available based on their board at a position that's needed in the scheme we run. The end.

I understand the bolded part. But even if I agree, what about the past 20 years should have anyone trusting the fins board?
I know, I know... different people in charge. But remember, Chris Grier was an area scout for the fins in 2000-2002, our assistant director of college scouting 2003-2007, director of college scouting 2007-2015, and GM beginning 2016.

Tua at No. 5 was a necessary risk, and I am just glad they didn't get played into giving something up to move one or two spots for him.

Jackson at 18 feels like a reach at OT, not because of a "fictional board," but because his production never matched his physical tools. Ask Buffalo's 2nd round pick, Epenesa, about Jackson. When they played in the Holiday Bowl, Epenesa had 2.5 sacks (and a FF) and was named the defensive player of the game.

Igbinoghene at 30 could work because of his crazy physical traits, and I get that it is a passing league, but spending a 1st on a CB when our starting CBs are among the highest paid in the NFL feels off. At least they moved back and grabbed an extra pick, though.

Hunt is a beast that also fills a need. Great pick.

Davis has bust written all over him. Had one solid year at Baga then disappeared off the face of the Earth. Nowhere to be found against L$U.

Jones is a hyper-limited safety.

Kindley is a mauler that fits a need. Not sure if he's a plug in play guy or not, but I'm good with this pick. OL was horrible and Kindley is hard to move.

Trading a 5th for Breida was a shrewd move. The kind of move that gives me hope. Great value at this point.

Stowbridge, eh. Maybe a higher floor type. Probably more athletically talented guys around, but not a bad pick. My recollection of him is that whenever UNC plays Miami this kid blocks a ******* kick. At worst he has some special teams value.

Weaver is a hyper-productive pass rusher who would have been drafted much higher but for concerns about his athleticism. I'll always be happy with a pick like this in the 5th round. Strong pick.

Drafting a LS No. 185 is a reach. Fictional board, draft board, dream board, card board... it doesn't matter. Big reach.

Malcolm Perry. This late in the draft, why not? Solid production (albeit in a RB/QB role).

Trading a late 7th for a 6th next sure. Solid move. We can only sign so many guys anyway, might as well get some more ammo in next year's draft (where we also have an extra 1st and 2nd).

One of those corners has issue yet to be resolved
