Does this mean SEC leaving the NCAA?

Imo, just posturing. They ain't going nowhere. Some of the less-resourced programs in FBS might decide to compete at a more manageable level, but that's lower-end schools making their own decisions

At this moment Sankey and Pettiti and their school presidents may want two things above all else:

1) The ability to legalyl enforce rules in recruiting, the portal and eligibility, i.e. legislation in Congress to help put a lid on the chaos we see now

2) Collectively maintain a firm grip on power at the highest level of college athletics

Gotta believe Miami is too valuable to be left behind (and to the SEC/B1G cartel the Canes likely fall in the category of "keep your friends close, but your enemies closer)
**** them. Let them leave. They’ll realize they won’t get the views they think they do

Let them leave and watch what happens to their team’s when they go back to giving out car leases and a few thousand bucks in a McD’s bag while the rest of the NCAA schools continue to spend millions on NIL.

Maybe they can call themselves Division 1AA.

3 straight years without a finalist in the playoffs. We're taking our ball and going home.

SEC commissioner is acting like today’s SEC is like yesterday’s SEC when in reality they are the equivalent to Deebo getting knocked out by ice cube and a third act

The leverage the SEC had a few years ago is quickly fading. It's partly NIL but it's also the loss of Saban as a head coach.

As dire of a situation that the ACC found itself in not that long ago it's almost possible that they could actually pull themselves out of it in a few years time.

The SEC bragging rights came from flexing on other schools and conferences. They are a regional conference, people would still watch them but it would not be the same. People been already tired of watching SECCG remaches and complaining. Yippee for more of that.

Here's my take...

Their biggest issue is that the SEC and BIG10 both have schools that nobody cares to watch outside of the radius of that school. Missouri, Vandy, Miss St, USCe, Kentucky, Purdue, Maryland, Rutgers, Northwestern, Minnesota, Illinois, these are all teams that bring nothing to the table. It's a flawed model from the start. If you want to break away and reform college football you don't bring Rutgers with you.

I personally think the entities that have the real exposure are the SEC and BIG10 themselves. What is stopping a group of 40-ish teams from all agreeing to leave their current conferences and start their own league, leaving behind any dead weight that the conferences won't be able to jettison? If you did it this way, a group of early movers that are the top teams in college football could go find the other 30-40 most valuable teams that would maximize the TV contracts. There is a combination of teams out there right now that would earn the most eye balls if they formed their own league, and it's not a merger of the BIG10/SEC.

You’re talking football results. SEC still has the highest TV viewership, game attendance and $. This is what controls college football.
