Does Butch think he got a fair shot?

I'm glad we reached out to Gary Patterson.

If he brings Willie Martinez it will be a huge mistake. He was terrible at UGA, and Richt fired him there. Why would he bring him here, if he was previously fired from his staff?

The more I read about the effort by James and the selection committee, the more impressed I am with them.

Just speculation, but I think Butch may have gotten the offer (if only verbally) but then when Richt came into play, he was cast aside

That one night on here about a week ago, it seemed that all reputable sources including DMoney and Pete thought it was Butch, and the whole board acted like it was a done deal at that point. Then 3 days later, Butch was supposedly not in the top 2. Just strange.

LMAO off at anyone compaling abotu the Richt hire over Butch. I wanted Butch back too. But snagging Richt? He's going to put up a bigger wall around South Florida than Butch could if he came back.

I just did some research on the fire of Willie Martinez. I don't think Richt goes back to him for our position based on reading this article. He not only fired Martinez but 2 other staff members, basically saying they weren't getting it done.

Georgia fires defensive coordinator Willie Martinez, two other defensive assistants

You can also look at this one, questioning the firing. Lots of reasons behind the fall off in defensive stats under Martinez, a lot of the issues were from the offense turning the ball over, and penalties.

I don't think Richt goes after him for DC. Maybe DBs coach, which would be great. We'll see though, but I really don't think Richt has mentioned anyone or contacted anyone, the only names being thrown out are the obvious ones by the media. It could be someone completely off the radar.

Also, I've saw people saying Richt was forced to fire him. His quotes in that article don't say that to me. I couldn't find anything saying that either. If anyone has something they can share I would appreciate it.

But I hope he can just except the fact that Richt was the best choice

It's the best choice for an administration that cares more about 'helping young men in their lives off the field' than building up teams that can win national championships.

I think this is about both, but in 2015 if your choices are Mark Richt or Butch Davis, you take Richt 10/10 times..
Nothing against Butch but that's the truth...I was on the Butch wagon, but it's just the right decision..just my opinion tho

This is the right answer, but it seems some of the Butch Brigade have really dug in their heels.

I was high on bringing him back but when Georgia actually decided to make their move, hiring Richt was a grand slam home run slam dunk no-brainer.

I think there has been 2 or 3 that I have seen on here digging in heels. Most of the Butch crowd are accepting of the Richt hire so lets drop that. I think it's hilarious how many people keep referencing the Butch crowd digging in, but there is no mention of the anti Butch guys who were digging in when they kept talking about how mediocre the search was if we don't get Chip, Patterson or Dantonio and end up with Butch, because it means we didn't offer those other guys, when in reality, expecting those guys to come was never realistic to begin with. There was literally just as many, if not more anti Butch threads as their were pro Butch. People got their expectations at ridiculous levels just like they did last time when we ended up with Golden. We all hoped and expected they should/would reach out to these coaches, but to expect those guys to just drop everything, just because we are Miami was more ridiculous than anything else.

You guys are holding onto the Butch brigade thing way too much. We got our coach, so lets focus on that

And yes, this is a thread about Butch, but I'm specifically addressing the comments about the Butch crowd digging in for every thread, when it's not nearly that rampant.

Oh crap we have to read too. I still want Butch as DC. That will sell 1000 season tickets, well at least 10 from me.

I asked a couple of inside people if Butch could be our DC. They said they thought CMR would not offer the position to him, but if he did, Butch would not accept. They say he only wants to be a HC. We will see how it plays out soon.

That doesn't surprise me. Coaches have serious egos. But it sure would be nice if the two could see their way to it without friction.

interesting point. alot of coming out that when they new AD came in, he micromanaged Richt including which coordinators he could hire and fire and also what style of football to play. it makes sense because prior to him getting their Richt was in beast mode.

Who cares at this point. It's over, we got our new coach. If he truly cared that much he shouldn't have left in the first **** place

Does that logic also apply to Schnellenberger, Jimmy, and Erickson?

Yeah but they are not actively campaigning for the job back like Butch Davis has been either

What exactly does that have to do with levels of caring and leaving? All four guys left for the pros in some capacity and all four guys cared about the program.

I wanted Butch but we got an elite coach who's a winner of the highest order so it's all moot at this point.

apples and oranges. The other three aren't butt hurt over not getting to come back when no one else was offering them a job.

i wouldnt be surprised if half the former players still dont trust butch. remember, he left those kids.

Fck Butch. South Carolina hired a bowl of mashed potatoes instead of him. That should tell you his national appeal at this point. UM lucked out that UGA suddenly thought it was better than a 10 win team.

That's kind of a different topic regarding Butch's saltiness over not getting the job this go around. I'm focusing more on the whole concept of leaving the program for the pros isn't something you can hold against him unless you hold it against the other coaches. I mean Schnellenberger didn't even get a pro job.

I'm worried about Willie Martinez. How can he be dc if richt had to fire him at Uga

Take solace in the fact that it was only the musings of the local HS coach idiots about Martinez being UM's DC. The same buffoons who thought Mario would get the HC gig.

This is the REALEST talk, ever, regarding Butch Davis.

South Carolina hired Holtz and Spurrier, back to back. Butch fits the model of their last 2 hires, who both had success.

The fact that they didn't chase Butch tells you all there is to know about his appeal, IMO.
