Does a Miami Offer Still Give Kids Leverage?

For years on this board we’ve talked about how kids use a Miami offer to parlay into other offers as well as to up the price of services to bag schools.

Jerry Jeudy was a visible threat to Bama to come here and ultimately went to Bama like other kids have gone there and to similar places. Right now, Jaden Francois has an offer from us, decommitted (twice) and still hasn’t gotten a Florida offer like he wants.

With the coaching and results we’ve seen and where things stand right now, have we reached the point where we have dropped so low on the totem pole that kids can no longer use our offers as leverage with the big boy schools because we are no longer even seen as a viable option for elite and most upper level kids?

Florida has a bunch of DBs already committed. Same thing with OSU. IDK what will happen with Penn State. I was reading around their board last night and it looks like they have 3 more spots. They seem to be looking at other positions though. Didn't see Francois's name mentioned anywhere.

I guess things could change with UF - long time between now and December 13th when he plans to take his OV to Miami

Miami had a top ten recruiting class (#8 on 247 if I recall) in 2018, when we had a 10 win season....

That recruiting class was signed less than two years ago. Those kids committed and didn't use Miami as "leverage" and mostly signed as the Canes were winning and creating excitement on a national level.....

Hate to sound like the Department of Redundancy Department....But, if the Canes win (Beating CMU 17-12 isn't winning),,,,The decommits and related using Miami conspiracies will abate significantly.....

YES! Absolutely. Would UM fans not question the lack of LA offer from USC or UCLA, or the lack of offers from Bama and Auburn for an Alabama prospect? Let's take it down a level, would UM fans be excited about a Memphis or Cincinnati HS player without an offer from their hometown schoool. ABSOLUTE FACT is the street agents are working UM to get South Florida kids offers their HS Sophomore year so they can shop them for bags. UM is being used by some of the lowest forms of life, basically men pimping young men. This is not an easy answer as these young prospects are being coached what to say to Miami. But what is really ridiculous is when one of the kids doesn't mature well, then their HS coach gets' all upset because UM withdrew their offer, so did Bama, FSU, UGA, Clemson, OSU, but Miami is supposed to take care of a 305 kid with offers from USF, Troy and Middle Tennessee State. Look it up, for every decommitt to a top 10 P5 school, there are probably twice as many that decommitt and then committ to a Group of 5 or lower level P5 school.

It is more of a "safety school" generally, but in some situations a kid can use it as leverage. Not in all situations by any means.

Yes... There is no way a kid can have a Miami offer and not get any other schools to have interest. Other schools are at the very least curious about the player because Miami wants them and regardless of how bad we’ve been in recent years the Miami Hurricanes is a respected program by name even if that’s based on past glory. In Francois case he’s not a 5 Star national kid that every school would be glad to take. He’s very talented but so is **** near every other DB at Ohio State whom he’s said to really want an offer from.

That’s whole theory was made up on message boards..why are u believing stuff in a message board is the question you should be asking

We're the local school. We know these recruits and their coaches better than anyone. That means there's a relationship there of some kind. So we offer, a legit offer, and the young impressionable recruit jumps on it. Then other legit offers start to come in. Some big-time programs get on whomever. We are no longer the big offer and then the ball starts rolling.

It isn't some super secret diabolical plan by these youngins to verbal and eventually drop us. It's just youngins being youngins.

So nothing is ever true on a message board. Ok. I’ll believe that too.
nope..there’s absolutely no truth to 97% of the statements made on this board..the more logical answer is weven been 1 ACC title since join it he league..a lot of local kids want to play for titles..a lot of times that’s why they go to other places..we haven’t been relevant

It depends on how much you guys are reading into the word "leverage".

The placeholder description is seemingly and sadly more accurate right now but I guarantee you that certain kids/families still use our offer to play games with other schools to increase the bag size.

So is it leverage in gaining offers from other schools? Probably not. But it has to help the actual bag size when a kid is clearly being pimped by a parent/handler but is basically living on our campus all the way up to signing day.

It was until about 4-5 years ago.
We as adults view time and the past differently than teens. Duke was different since we weren’t so far removed from relevance as he was growing up. Teens think being 30 is old. So 6 years ago a kid might have some memories of Miami. A16 year old now just knows the turnover chain and losing to duke and vt at home.
As more time passes without us being relevant the less the leverage is. Before other schools viewed us as a legit landing spot for some of the kids they were recruiting and kids used is to drive the price up. Other school were basically suckered into paying more cause they legit thought kids were going to come. Now if a kid says Miami is his dream offer almost everyone knows that it’s bull sht. And even the staff knows it.
But kids still use the offer and commitment for exposure. That’s why we get so many early commits. Kids use it to put there name out there. Their coaches and family know it. And the streets agents know it. The Recruiters at other schools know it as well.

I believe bags exist and once mattered to us but they are almost irrelevant as it relates to us AT THIS POINT IN TIME for the reasons you state here and then some.

We’re not winning and we’re not really developing the talent we get so a kid today doesn’t need a bag to choose Bama or Clemson or other winners and developers of talent over Miami. When we become a winner and developer of talent again then bags will matter.

Too bad you weren’t on the board during the Jeudy recruitment, with you being from Deerfield Beach... craziest roller coaster thread ever.

Exactly even Zion had app state

I absolutely believe we are used as leverage. All they have to say is, “well he’s gonna miss momma and isn’t comfortable leaving home. Mom can’t afford to fly to see him play. He can take care of his little sister if he stays home.” Blah blah blah.

But you know what does do all those things while he’s 1,000 miles away? Cash in all forms meaning jobs, house, whatever.

However I don’t believe they ever worry about all the top kids staying home and building what happened decades ago.
