Do you realize how one non-call finally went our way...

We got away with the OJF play and in a regular game, I bet you the Toure hit would have been called targeting in a regular season game.

There’s one theme with these playoff games - the refs have for the most part swallowed their whistles. Yeah, the result is they miss some holding calls and whatnot but it makes for such a better product.
At most it gets reviewed in the regular season but the replay clearly shows Toure leading with his shoulder.

I don’t think it was targeting either but I haven’t seen it in slow replay. He was concussed so I figured his head did make contact?
I think someone previously said his chin made contact with the shoulder pad??? Not sure if that’s it but his helmet and face were upright when they collided. It was perfect in the sense of how the helmet was face mask forward.

I watched the replay of the game in the “Pat McAfee Sideline Field pass” version on ESPN2 (yeah yeah, I know you guys hate McAfee..but it was actually pretty good)…but McAfee said the refs told him before the game that they wouldn’t let the game be decided by them. No controversial calls and they would let the players decide the outcome not them. I loved that! Hope this continues throughout the CFP.

Refs kept looking at the scoreboard replay which i though was odd. I was getting nervous they would go under to take a look but they kept it moving

the game was reffed fine so I agree with you.

it was fair on both ends.

they also let the receivers and CBs play

Agreee. HATED the call on Blount but if a ref sees a QB getting hit in the helmet it’s gonna be a flag

Also agree with @BigDikDaddyFromCincinnati targeting at its heart is a great thing conceptually, but good lord the refs ruin it. Of all the targeting calls we see how many are just dumb luck vs someone actually trying to hurt someone? I know intent is tough to judge but still

it was a good no call. it wasnt targeting
Let the boys play. The refs were from what conference?
And what conference are the refs from for the Ohio st. Game?
Btw, with all that noise we stayed practically penalty free from off side calls.
I was happy with the refs

This is really the combination of the two rules. The defenseless player part is the leading with the helmet, shoulder, forearm etc part,
Right, but my point is that the majority of CFB fans have no idea that there is more than one rule.

Had the same thought in real time. I hate targeting calls. Not because I don’t care about the players’ safety. Because it’s a severe penalty and oftentimes is extremely difficult for the defender to prevent. I firmly believe that refs should be there to call the egregious penalties and let the game be decided on the field by the players. I thought the refs in that game were pretty darn good.

A defender should never be called for targeting if his head is up and he is not thrusting elbows up hitting a defenseless player.

It should never be called against a ball carrier.

That was a joke. At best a make up call for OJF.
I know I’m biased here but OJ wasn’t a penalty. WR was fighting for yards when he got ragdolled

But I loved watching Elko explode over that

Imagine knowing full well you can’t get a first down on your own and the same tough guy from 2017 ND is now screaming and crying for a flag because he knows it’s the only way they can has a chance

Fat crybaby ****

Can we buy those refs? Or join the Big 12?

Asking for a survivor of this year's ACC refereeing.
I’ve been saying this but it was @Memnon who at least two years ago said we would be better off in the Big 12. We fit in better there with other outcasts.

I do not remotely believe we would be treated better in the B1G or the SEC not that we are ever getting an invite to the latter, and no guarantee we get an invite from the B1G for that matter. Look at the B1G and the Wisconsin lawsuit against us. Why would we want to join that milk toast conference?

And the SEC? They’d have control of us and put us in a corner to keep us down.

This was payback for the OJ non-call earlier.

The refs in this game, as should be in all cases just want the game to flow and end so they can get home to the wife, kids, side piece, only fans hookup, whatever. They don't interject themselves for the sake needing attention like the refs in a certain conference along the mid-Atlantic area.

It could have been another Ohio State, game changing call. I was happy the announcers decided to leave it alone and not start harping on the possibility that the play by Toure was potential targeting. I still believe that announcers have an effect on what happens up in the booth. If they had spent the time after that play talking about how it was definitely targeting, they probably would have reviewed it. Fortunately they thought it was chest first. In the past, these are the kinds of calls that have killed us.

We forget about these tiny decisions during a game that can change the entire outcome. I'm feeling very fortunate today that we are not spending all our time dissecting that play. And of course it was an amazing play by Toure.
it was balanced off by the horrific roughing the passer call during last series

Head and Shoulders above and extremely competent compared to ACC refs. Unbelievable the difference in officiating.
