After looking at the stats you listed, very doubtful there would be marked improvement.

It’s really not incredibly indicative of success, either.

The team everyone wishes they were a fan of with the hall of fame coach, SMU, finished 132nd in pentalty yards last year.

It’d be nice, but take 1 yard per game off our total for the complete bull**** holding call we had against Syracuse and we’re probably in the playoffs.

It’s also what kind of penalties, too. And when.

For example, last year we had VERY few procedural penalties. False starts, illegal motion, illegal formation. Very very few. That’s great coaching. Other side of the coin, could have done without George’s 143rd unsportsmanlike against Syracuse as well.
 
Out of curiosity, which staff did we have the least number of penalties under. I feel like acc play skews numbers a little bit but maybe that’s my hate for the league.

Well, we won’t have Jacolby throwing haymaker’s once a game so I guess that’ll help…
 
Miami is always a highly penalized team. Even some of our best teams were in the 100+ range. I doubt we’ll see a ton of improvement in this category. 75ish is probably the best you can hope for

Knew we weren’t great but I didn’t realize we were that bad. 🤬
 
The types of penalties are more important than the total number. Drive killing procedure penalties that are easily avoided are far worse than aggression related penalties. Obviously, you want as few penalties as possible but if there’s one stat that has almost zero reflection on team success, it’s number of penalties. Very rarely are the least penalized teams the best teams.

It's been ridiculous. When your penalties are that high, much less 3 straight years, it's 100% coaching. If you want to be a successful team, that isn't happening.
