D'Mauri Jones and Corn Elder to play on the BBall team

Coach L is a genius. Circumventing the scholarship losses by getting Al to sign them to football scholarships.

Same thing Butch did with track schollies.

Hate to hear that about Corn. He's our most natural football player at CB and wanted to see him and Artie take the next step next season. This will limit his time to dedicate there.

Yes, but Santana Moss was more important for the football team than Corn will be for basketball team.

Hopefully they get some PT, will like to see them ball out.

Basketball isn't the worst thing for Corn as a CB because the conditioning, foot and hand work/technique will assist.

IIRC, being able to play both football and basketball here was a key draw and probably the only reason Golden was able to flip him at the 11th hour. In other words, we either have to live with Corn being a 2 sport athlete or we probably wouldn't have him at all.

You're right. That said, there aren't a lot of 5'10" guys in the NBA. His life and his call. Selfishly I just wish he was focusing on football.

LMAO at Al Golden...

UM coach Al Golden praised Elder’s play during his sophomore year, and noted in an interview with the Post last week the team was particularly light on corners. “We have five cornerbacks on scholarship. Other schools have 10,” he said.

And whose fault would that be, Golden? Losing 9 total scholarships over 3 years caused that lack of CB depth? Or was it caused by multiple corners leaving in the offseason? Or how about your complete failure to land any corners in an absolutely loaded year at the position in South Florida? And what about continuing to use LBs to cover slot receivers, which shows recruits there isn't as much playing time in this defense as there would be at other programs that realize slot corners need to cover slot receivers?

What a f***ing joke.

I think I know where we could find 5 missing corners:

Ronnie Hoggins
Juwan Dowels
K McFadden
Rashard Fenton
Sojourn Shelton

Literally all any of em needed was an offer you fat ****.

Probably not as much as you think. Basketball players lift during the season. As it stands right now Miami might make it to the ACC quarters so season ends on or around March 12th unless we end up in the NIT. I doubt Miami makes the NCAA unless Uceda gives the front court fix the team needs right now.

Makes no sense for Corn to be playing basketball at this point. Hoops team is loaded with guards and can't see him getting meaningful minutes, only risk potential injury and time better served in weight room or on the track.

Nice pic, but there's still not a lot of 5'10" players in the league.
