The 6-foot-3, 255-pounder is the No. 995 overall prospect in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 94 defensive lineman and the No. 131 player in the state of Florida.

While head coach Mario Cristobal, defensive line coach Joe Salave’a and defensive ends coach Jason Taylor led the way in recruiting Russell, they had some help from a few current Hurricanes players.

Bobby and Robby Washington talk to me almost every day, trying to get me to commit,” Russell said. “It makes me feel good hearing that from them because they’re trying to turn things around get Miami back to how it was.”

No…just no.

I don’t care if he was defensive player of the year. He’s going to be going up against other players of the year from their states and you can see a total difference in athleticism. The size isn’t even the concern. We’re in a different era where stuff like that have taken a step back but the athleticism isn’t there for the type of football we’re trying to play.

Prove me wrong kid. I hope you do. I just don’t see it.
I think as a DE recruit, he leaves a little to be desired as an athlete….. but as a DT recruit, he’s ultra athletic and can do some good things for us down the road. That’s where I believe his money is at. I think that’s where he’s gonna play. We just gotta get him to gain enough weight so he won’t get mauled inside. Dade Co. Def. POTY…. They just don’t give those awards out to everybody. The kid can play. We just gotta get him in the right place, and help him develop the tools that he has.

anyone that thinks 6'3" and pushing close to 270 from recent reports is undersized is just dumb
True, but all the “undersized” talk is coming from some reports of the kid being closer to 6’0 235. Idk how big he is. I’m riding with Zo and Mario on their ability to judge talent. And the fact that he was Dade’s DPOTY as a junior. That’s gotta mean something.

No. I have a severe disdain for taking kids we’ve been losing with since 2004.

How many times do you want to take kids like so you can figure out it doesn‘t work?

Losing almost an entire recruiting class wasn’t enough for you?
This. We are still in it for a lot of blue chip recruits, but I am seeing a lot of manny diaz specials in this class. You win with high blue chip ratios, that is the rule, not the exception. There are exceptions, but Mario hasnt shown that he is a head coach that can out scheme opponents.

Mario needs high end talent to win, not south florida 3*s that are Idaho 5*s.

Has a defensive player of the year award under his belt and y'all don't like the take but yet y'all the same ones who's okay with taking a guy like freaking Judd Anderson.... I don't understand y'all and I never will lol

btw... I'm not saying i'm okay with this take. ****, I haven't even heard of dude until now. But at least I see production when I look him up.
