Don’t downplay the talent gap reference. You saw what happened in the NCG. The talent gap/differential makes a BIG DIFFERENCE.
Truly a groundbreaking take

I had never considered that even while I was mentioning it

You’ve given me a lot to think about. To clarify, teams that have a talent advantage makes a BIG DIFFERENCE?

Give me a few moments

I’m not one to jump to conclusions or see the sky falling over recruiting but..

If the kid doesn’t come with the offer on the table compared to what other teams are offering… you can either assume 1 of 3 things..

He never was coming here and we wasted a ton of time and resources

These recruits know something we don’t that is pushing them elsewhere

Mario isn’t worth $80M. (He’s not but some still think so)
Are players hesitant about Guidry and the rest of the staff on D? I get players hesitant to be bro style offense etc etc etc but it’s getting real weird.
And yes mario isn’t worth 80 mil no matter what stone decides

My only caveat to this is Mario and the 80 mil complaints show how poor we've been. 80 mil is a slightly above mid contract for a school trying to win championships.

I said it when he was hired and I’ll say it now: paying him that kind of money was fundamentally good because it showed Miami could care about winning enough to pay for it. Mario actually winning is almost secondary to the messaging of “Miami pays like an SEC school”.

In a sense, I don’t care if Mario is worth 80 mil, because being the HC at Miami is now worth 80 mil. That perception change is priceless.

Pretty much all I’ve thought about as well even though I wasn’t thrilled with the Mario hire, I’m like this program will be around a lot longer than Mario will be a coach here. Hopefully he’s here for 20 years and wins championships, but if he’s not, the standard has been set and it’s more or less the first couple of years of an entirely new program for me

In 2022 the deal was the 8th or 9th highest in cfb in terms of annual salary. That's considerably higher the mid contract. Yes a couple guys have got new contracts since then (Kiffin, Freeze) and pushed him out of the top 10, but lets not try to shift blame and say the school wasn't willing to pay a top 10 salary, so we get what we paid for. UM paid a competitive rate for a top coach and Cristobal hasnt performed.

Crib has indicated our offer here is more than substantial. Outside of that he has a ton of IMG teammates here and an opportunity to play day 1 as our top line DT depth is thin. OU has home field advantage + their program has won a ton more than us which factors big, but they've been an offense heavy team that entire time with toilet water defense also coming off a crap season like us. Don't forget OU goes to the SEC next year and that " SEC allure " has killed us time and time again. I think Stone truly likes Miami and can see himself here but the way the cycle has played out its gotta be OU here.

You have to think this is a big factor for elite recruits. The allure of playing in an even more powerful SEC compared to our uncertain future and uninspiring present in a weak ACC. We desperately need to find a way into the B1G or the SEC.

It’s a fair question and a valid concern if that’s an issue for recruits. There isn’t a single coach on the defensive staff with a track record of putting guys in the league. Take Jason Taylor—we all think he’s great and that recruits should be lining up to play for him, but he last had double digit sacks when this current group of juniors was 1-2 years old.

If we get this guy this weekend I will play the front 9 of my Sunday golf round in a dres

Most recruits, unless they have strong geographical or family ties to a particular school, are looking for the best path to the nfl. NIL $,PT, coaching, etc are important. Look at the large number of guys drafted from east and west bumf***. Lots of paths of the cheese.

Wayne , Riley Williams and Mauigoa didn’t.
Every Wednesday afternoon, I set up a table at a college campus and engage with the students in the public sphere about different worldviews and I thought the things that I responded to are dumb, and think that I waste my time. I don’t understand how you don’t feel the same way here.

From the OU 247 board this afternoon:

How did it get to this point?
From an Oklahoma perspective, the Sooners have been on the verge of landing Stone's on more than one occasion. There was confidence expressed out of Norman a couple different instances, but a commitment was never finalized. Michigan State smoke was also very real as the Spartans surged in this recruitment months ago but weren't able to land a verbal. Even this decision date fell into question several times as there were rumors throughout July and early August that Stone could close things down. Now, with time continuously extended and things remaining open, that's allowed a program like Miami to go full steam ahead. The Canes have expressed their goal of bringing in an elite defensive line class this cycle, and Stone has long been a name on that board. As a result of the extended timeline, Miami's relentless pursuit of Stone and his family has altered the outlook with little time remaining.

Where do things stand now?
Stone and his entire family sat down together after the IMG-Lipscomb Academy game to hash out how they felt and come to a decision
Both OU and Miami staffs were aware of this plan. Going into that dinner meeting, both staffs felt good where things stood.

Stone has great admiration for OU, its coaches and the relationships that are present there, but Stone has also been greatly appreciative of the effort Miami has shown prioritizing Stone and his family members. A concern behind the scenes is that Stone may have to handle some challenges in a potential return to home in Oklahoma. This has increased interest in the thought of staying in Florida and playing at a place like Miami.

Stone still has a lot of admiration for Oklahoma, but his family loves Miami and he has connected with several people in the program.

On the question of Jayden Jackson and his relationship with Stone:
The two have essentially formed a brotherhood while spending time away from their families at IMG Academy. But not too long ago, Jackson was prepared to make a decision independently that had nothing to do with Stone. Schools like Texas, Miami and Ohio State were involved until OU was able to jump into the top spot down the stretch. The OU reporter says that several sources told him that Jackson's decision to commit to OU was his own which has to be considered regarding Stone.

Miami is trying to counter with relationships of its own at this stage in the process.. Stone is close with several current players on the Canes' roster, including a former teammate at IMG in Francis Mauigoa.

Oklahoma feels it has the advantage from a coaching relationship perspective in Todd Bates, but Miami's coaches have really connected with Stone's family. Other commits for OU are also trying to help pursue Stone like Jaydan Hardy, but the Canes are countering with communication from any outlet imaginable.

The 247 reporter says Stone's relationships with Oklahoma's staff and commits remain crucial, but Miami has literally gone all-in on pursuing Stone's family. The Canes' staff called Stone's family members during their 10-hour drive up to Nashville to check in, something that Stone mentioned really stood out. His siblings love their visits to Miami and I know Stone's mother has discussed the advantages of Stone staying in Florida with the Canes' coaches. Both schools can check the 'early playing time' box with actual proof being shown in the depth charts.

Both schools feel good right now. The 247guy says he couldn't in good conscience put a cb in or anyone right now. He expects this recruitment to go down to the wire with info locked up tight until possibly right before the weekend.

I feel like I’ve said this before to you, baby doll, but I don’t know how your post is a response to what I said. I did not even comment on Mario’s success or failure, he’s almost exclusively been the latter. My commentary is purely on the precedent and perception of the hire, not the man who was actually hired. The two categories are almost irrespective of each other. Staff budget is also in this category, it’s good that Miami

There are only 10-15 teams who try to and can win a national championship. If he’s 8th in that group, it’s mid imo, and that does not exonerate him in the least. 80 mil just buys you a seat at the table, has nothing to do with whether or not you can play cards.
