i dont give a **** what a fortune 500 company does. take that **** to bloomberg mag message boards. this is a football team that has to be disciplined if you wanna prevent further dumbass **** from happening. no offense, you sound like youre still in your 20s. in the legal world, you do stupid ****, youre going to get sanctioned or disbarred. the main morgan guy cant even practice law anymore bc of his stupidity. the real world may be diff in your field, but these are kids in college that have to learn. it sucks that ivey was suspended, but **** learn from it as hes a good kid with a good head on his shoulders. manny has let stuff go and has given second chances to kids that may or may not have deserved it.

Ummm.. NO! Saban has players get arrested with guns and gets them to not miss games. Urban meyer covered up murderers. Jimbo covered up rapists. Thats how you win. That is how you get success in the real world. Only a complete ******* moron would "punish" someone just to bring discipline to a team.

Some of the responses ITT are ridiculous and a microcosm of what’s wrong with society today. Personal responsibility doesn’t matter it’s always someone or something else’s fault.
DJ seems like a good kid who fvcked up but everyone else on the team managed not to get suspended so it’s on DJ and DJ alone.
And undoubtedly his fvck up cost us on what might’ve been the two biggest plays of the game.

I've long respected you for your posts, OGH, but this is an odd hill you are choosing to die on. Yes, there are examples in life of successful people who have gotten there by being disruptors. But that doesn't therefore mean certain environments don't require a hierarchy of authority, which itself inherently requires rules and discipline. The military is the quintessential example of that. No, I'm not saying CFB is analogous to the military. But like the military, a football program requires a hierarchy of authority, and any hierarchy of authority needs rules, and rules are meaningless if there is no repercussions for breaking those rules.

This idea that CFB players shouldn't be punished for violating team rules is asinine. Are there some programs that do everything they can to try and hide violations and brush them under the carpet? Yes, but Miami is not one of them; we can never be one of them again due to our history. It's my understanding the UM compliance department tied the staff's hands and mandated the game 1 suspension of Ivey. They are going to error on the side of caution every single time due to how under the microscope The U will always be by the NCAA.

I really don't understand what point you're trying to make here. It doesn't apply to us.

The one who is dead would have been doing life if Urban didn't cover for him. I am sure he preferred spending a few years balling out while playing in the NFL over going to prison for like at 19. A few have had their lives ruined and a few in jail. The vast majority of these guys are successful businessmen or athletes.

Never saw Billions. However, if it is about coverups in fortune 500 companies it probably pretty realistic. I actually work on wall street in real life and spend thousands of hours a year working with billion dollar companies. Covering up for employees is an absolute must if they are high earners. If some intern fvcks up. You hang him out dry like a sacrificial lamb. If a guy pulling in hundreds of millions a year does something, you cover it the fvck up unless it costs you more to do so. It rarely comes to light which is why you may not realize this, but the Jeffries bank scandal was exactly this.

You are the one playing the victim, whining about a player committing a crime and demanding he gets "punished".

I literally know nothing about the military so I can't speak on that, but the difference is in the military, if you discipline someone it is not going to lose the war. There are tons of equally skilled people just waiting to fill there shoes. Even in the upper echelons like MARSOC guys or Green Berets the difference between the best sniper and the 2nd best sniper is not as great as the difference between an All ACC level DB and the next man up. Even then, look at that navy seal cover up that was happening that just got busted. They do the same thing.

Imagine this hypothetical scenario. USA is at war with China, pretend China has made great strides in the past decade and are now a more powerful military than us. We just where at war for a few years and both sides have taken massive casualties. We are looking like we will lose and a breakthrough came in. We have 1 opportunity to assassinate their top generals. We train 1 guy, the absolute best man for the job, for this special mission. A few days before the mission is to take place(this is a small window of opportunity we need to act at that exact time or we lose). The trained man gets arrested for shoplifting or smoking weed or some other "team rule". I can guarantee you they will not be singing the same tune of "lets suspend the guy and hurt the entire nation in order to show discipline".

I understand your point about the compliance department, but that needs to stop if we ever want to be great again. No elite school doesn't cover up for their kids. Just like no elite companies don't cover up for their top earners. Listen, if some scrub third stringer does something. Sure suspend them, but not an elite guy. The fact that the most successful coaches and CEOs think this way says a lot.
