I understand that this is blatant racism but it's crazy to me that people still use the term "thugs" in regard to Miami
Year after year we're bottom of the country in arrests and top 10 in graduation rates. Not to mention guys like Demetrius Jackson actually making a societal difference post-football.
Unfortunately, perception becomes reality and even when you attempt to change it our outgrow it—it sticks with you.
Fact is, Canes ran amok in the 80s and early 90s—AND—Miami has always been a city with a shady element.
When you have "The U" and "The U Part 2" running on Netflix and streamable anytime—THAT is what most know about Miami. They don't follow it or care to pay attention to anything more than the headlines.
Last most outsiders remember about Miami; Nevin Shapiro and a three-year investigation. No one remembers that it ended six years ago. They probably think it was 2-3 years ago as time flies.
People need to stop worrying about what outsiders say and just focus on this program getting better.
Instead, we're fixated on changing the opinions of the unchangeable—while wasting time fighting with other fans and trying to change their personal perceptions (re: should be "back" by now .... Diaz isn't the guy to get it done ... etc.)
