This ain't UNC

Who said it was?

A good coach should be able to produce anywhere.

So Saban wins multiple national championships at SMU, for example!

He might not win NCs, but I'm sure he'd have SMU winning 10+ games, competing for conf titles, and playing in decent bowls.

Like he did at Michigan State? You can poke holes at almost any coaches resume.

Was Saban an established good coach then, or not until he was at LSU?

I don't get the blind love for Butch. He's a decent fall-back option, but 1st choice?
Even if you want to ignore the age, the lack of recent coaching/recruiting. Butch was never a good game-day coach, he won most of his games by having more talent.
Larry Fedora has done more with his UNC team that Butch ever did.
NFL draft picks is meaningless, all I care about is a coach that can get Miami competitive week in and week out. Get us a shot at the playoffs on a regular basis.

Larry Fedora has done more? Larry Fedora has done nothing so far. His record this year is because he's played the weakest schedule of all power 5 teams just about.

When you combine that wholly desultory run at UNC with the monumental scandal (even though he hasn't been implicated yet) and his culpability for hiring Black Santa, a known cheater who...guess what?...cheated at UNC and got 13 guys suspended in 2010, it's shocking that he's been unemployed for 5 years.

He's beat the **** out of his ACC competition.

Refuses to adjust for 11 game seasons, lists almost every loss as a "notable loss", and leaves out a win against ranked BC in 08

Yeah this is legit

What does that mean? When did UNC play 11 game seasons? Or are you just parroting what the other guys are saying?

Year 3 is the one that concerns me. All that talent he brought in should've been up to playing speed by then. Year 1=The program sucked when he took over. Year 2=He doubled up the previous year's wins. About what he should've done. Year 3=He needed to win more than he did and even worse is John Shoop should've been fired by then. Year 4=The stars got suspended and he probably still should've won more.

He's still my choice for the job.

If not for all the suspensions I think they win the National title

As I look at their season on Wikipedia now, I think they win three of the five games that they lost that year. A 6 point loss to LSU, a 6 point loss to Georgia Tech, and a 4 point loss to NC State seem like the result would've been different had North Carolina's stars not been suspended.

A 23 point loss to a bad Miami team and a 16 point loss to Virginia Tech seem like more talent wouldn't have been the difference between winning and losing. At bare minimum they would be been a very good team and better than 8-5.

He hired Black Santa, a notorious cheater, who, like he did everywhere else he was employed, cheated at UNC and got all those players in trouble taking gifts from agents. It's not like Butch was some innocent victim in that agent scandal. He hired a well-known scoundrel who, not surprisingly, wound up doing scummy **** that decimated his team.

Live by the sword. Die by the sword.

You should care.
This ain't UNC

Who said it was?

A good coach should be able to produce anywhere.

What has any coach won at UNC? I'll wait

Mack Brown had 3x 10+ win seasons there.

Larry Fedora is on his way to a 10 win season and the ACC CG.

Did Butch do any of that?

Fedora is in year 4 taking over a team loaded with Butch players. You are not even worth discussing this with as you intentionally omit every relevant contextual factor, because you know those contexts will blow a hole in your agenda.

Fedora's team this year is loaded with Butch players? List all of them.

Miami and Duke are the two best teams he's faced this year and neither one is worth beating your chest over. Fedora has benefited greatly from an easy schedule.

Yeah this is legit

So add in BC as a notable win and Butch still ends up 15-17 in ACC games. Defend that. Make an excuse for that.

Magical fairy dust makes 3 win teams into title contenders immediately, not great coaches. Almost half of those losses are from the first season.

Soooo...

We covet the guy who went 8-5 at UNC with a buttload of talent...

But laugh at the idea of considering the guy who's currently 9-1 at UNC?

Not saying he didn't hire a cheater and his hiring a cheater is why those players were suspended. I'm also not going to pull the, "Well everybody cheats," card. My point was more to the fact that the best players on his team didn't play, regardless of how they got there or why they didn't play. That's at the end of they day falling on Butch as the head coach.
