Year 3 is the one that concerns me. All that talent he brought in should've been up to playing speed by then. Year 1=The program sucked when he took over. Year 2=He doubled up the previous year's wins. About what he should've done. Year 3=He needed to win more than he did and even worse is John Shoop should've been fired by then. Year 4=The stars got suspended and he probably still should've won more.

He's still my choice for the job.

John was the OC in Chicago for my Bears for a couple of years...I hate him. Butch's defense was getting better, but that offense blew some critical games. That 2009 team should've won 11 games that year. Lost I think like 3 games in the 4th while leading. Including a couple of last minute joints. Shoop should've been gone. He made my Bears look like they were in the 60's playing offensive football.

Butch w the right staff, will win. That was his bad for keeping on Shoop, though

Great recruiter, great defensive mind, desperately needs an OC that is granted full control.

Butch's mistake was hiring Shoop. The defense was good enough to win every game. If NC could have scored some points it would have made it even easier for his defense to make an impact since the opposing team would have to get desperate. This is why I think he should bring it someone proven at calling plays in college. I will live with Dorsey because I am a Dorsey homer but don't have any track record to know how he will do.

Someone in a previous thread mentioned a Wilson/Leavitt combo of coordinators. Could Miami afford top coordinators if they're engaged in a bidding war for one of the popular up and comer clones?

Good recruiter average to below average coach?

That's what he did at Miami as well basically. I think he's solid. Think Les Miles, Mark Richt, Bob Stoops, etc. Guys like that.

Are you saying Butch is comparable to Miles, Stoops, and Richt, or better than those guys?

I would say comparable with each having their respective minuses and pluses.
I think Davis is superior to all of those names in talent evaluation.
Stoops' background is on the defensive side of the ball like Davis, but I would give the edge to Stoops
with regards to their approach on offense - he's had some very good minds on that side of the ball
like Sumlin, Wilson, Leach, and the current guy Riley.

He not only hired Shoop, but kept him for 4 years. That is not a "mistake", it is a sign of incompetence. It makes him unfit to be head coach anywhere.

I would like to see him bring someone like Tony Petersen, the OC at Louisiana Tech.
Maybe pair him up with Mitch Browning, the OLine coach at Rutgers.
Peterson and Browning were co-OCs at Minnesota during the Glen Mason era and they
had some nice offenses that were ran and passed it effectively.
Or perhaps Clay Helton, the interim HC at USC.
There are good OCs who are realistic for UM, IMO.
