Manny pointed out during fall camp that there's a disease in our football team. He preached of how until it's fully eradicated we cannot become a legitimate program. Well, last night proved the disease has done nothing but keep spreading unchecked, and patient zero is Manny ******* Diaz.
What we saw yesterday was the direct result of a culture that is antithetical to winning. It simply has no idea how to win from the top down.
A real program that's starving for success and craves to be a legitimate program doesn't go out and let one good month in an otherwise failure of a season get to their head. If we had a real culture the entire team would've been foaming at the mouth to destroy FIU and anyone who came across their path because they're still not satisfied after wasting the first 2 months of the season.
Instead of that, we had a team clearly feeling themselves because of a couple of wins from 2 and 3 weeks ago which in their minds allowed them to drop off massively in intensity levels and focus for the season. We just witnessed an entire program check-out and go into auto-pilot mode because they felt their job was done. Embarrassing.
There's no recovering from this for Manny or the football team. But getting rid of him isn't going to solve anything. He may be patient zero for the football team but he isn't the source of the disease. You don't lose to FIU just because of a bad coaching staff or lazy effort by players, you lose because the entire PROGRAM is infested and antithetical to winning. And that's what we have in Coral Gables. If I had one person to fire today it would 100x be Blake more than Manny. We need to a wholesale change in the Athletic Department. Without it, we'll keep being led by people who have zero clue or zero interest in winning, and with that leading your program, you'll keep experience the type of seasons we continue having for the next 100 years.
