Discipline Defense

Both points spoken of Greatly, and that's been my problem with blake baker, and is the main reason that 4th and 17 was given up last year, his mental approach to what an aggressive defense is, is the major fundamental flaw on the team, the scheme is decent, to many unnecessary blitzes, than running zone behind it instead of press-man. And primarily mis-use of personnel as well. It's 4th and 17, why is shaq quarterman in the game at that point, he's not going to cover a tight-end down field. Than we blitzing with gilbert frierson from the secondary on a 4th and 17. Why not just blitz with shaq and pickney, we UNC had 3 receivers going out, than the blitz was to the weakside of the qb, instead to his strong side where it would have either forced him to speed up his throw or have to move to his left and make and accurate throw.

Had we played press-man on the side-strong, instead we played press man on the weak-side, send shaq instead of frierson on the blitz, and have pickney drop deep in coverage that game would've been over, UNC went mass protect, didn't even send the tight end out. It was a clown call and showed that baker doesn't have the common sense needed to be an elite d-co and obviously got nervous in the moment. Than after game when he said, "we didn't execute the call properly" man, GTFOH with that bullshat! He shows a 3 man front, than thinks the linebackers we're going to be able to confuse an o-line in mass-pro, by dropping shaq into coverage but bring frierson, 4th and 17 shaq should've never been in coverage. In fact y'all more than likely have done it, but here it is again, the great defenses in any sport understands forcing a team or person to have to beat you with their weakness, blake had a birdseye view of his phucked up call!
The fact that they were in max protect goes to show you that their OC knew that Baker would not be able to not blitz. He just can't help himself.

After rewatching the UAB game the coaches should be drilling staying disciplined on defense. If this happens i can see us being a very good team because there were too many mental mistakes by not playing assignment football. That's what makes a great team no mental errors if players can't do so put in someone who will. Just my rant because i think its simple fixes to be a great team. Go Canes!!!
Agree with your assessment, unfortunately this has been going on for a while : I still have nightmares about TE and RB's running free because folks not carrying out their assignments . Let's not even talked about the lack of gap integrity

This would be true if you knew the assignments for the players

It’s never going to happen with this defense, it’s unsound by nature.
Not sure who can disagree with this, apparently somebody.

This defense places the most emphasis on rushing the QB like your hair is on fire.

While we know EVERY coach preaches gap integrity to some degree, something seems to off with the amount it is preached at UM or emphasis on execution. Honestly, it always amazed me at how honed in our defense COULD get, in relation to gap integrity and responsibility, against GT because they were forced to with the triple option. Still, in our last 3 wins from 2015-2017, we gave up like 21 points each game (28 in last 2 losses 2018-2019).

Diaz had no trouble with Satterfield's offense when we played App State because we maintained gap integrity while getting penetration. There was no unnecessary stunts and we lined up properly. And we only blitzed in obvious passing situations occasionally. Can Baker follow this gameplan?

We stoppped the run last year if I remember correctly also

Talk about last year all you want, but bringing up the App St game makes no sense. They had a QB that couldn’t complete a pass over 5 yards. Talent matters. You really think P5 coaches that beat LT were saying this is gonna be the same way against Miami bc we beat Baker when he was at Tech?

Coaches do it all the time to pick up on other coaches tendencies. He runs the same offense he did at app state. I'm saying when Manny was DC we did not stunt anywhere as much as Baker does so we were in better position to make plays against the run. If we stop the run against this offense we win easily. They're qb is not gonna drop straight back and beat us. He's not built like that.

Watch football and learn not hard.
Like I said..y’all don’t know the assignments from play to play. So unless your being specific and use examples your pretty much assuming ****. They guy who looks like they blew a assignment could very well had been on point

Man I’d kill to have our first offensive play go for a TD and kill all momentum...

Hopefully defense comes out first. I want the ball in the second half.

I’m not arguing..I said what I said. If y’all not being specific and not breaking down plays y’all just talking ****. All **** on D is tied to what the man next to u or behind u are supposed to be doing depending on the call and what the offense presents

Not an expert - but isn't that zone outside run they do - similar to the old wishbone that loved running wide?
