But QBs get protected too much. If youre a runner, you should be treated like every other runner in the game. Slide protection shouldn't exist.

This has always been my take on the matter - if you want to run as a QB you have to get out of bounds, or you get hit.

As for the tackle itself, in the sad reality of the modern game, it's an ejection but not dirty. Celebrating it after the fact, when Moore was clearly badly hurt, is the bad look in all this and what will ultimately be remembered.

Football's approach to this type of play needs to be different. From an objective standpoint, it clearly is designed to protect the qb (which is ok), while compromising the defense(not ok).
Have watched this play several times now, and the slide begins with both players approx. four yards apart, both moving toward one another at a high rate of speed. They meet in the MIDDLE. Ultimately we're asking defenders to pull up and to a certain degree expose themselves to injury, whether from the cleets of the qb, or jumping over or altering their path in a split-second decision. Of course, qb's often take advantage of the latitude they've been given. Just a bad rule.

Not saying the USC defender didn't take his shot, he did, but from the beginning of the slide to contact was in the one second range. If you haven't experienced the immediacy of such an experience, it would be hard to understand.

How about a penalty for qb's who slide too late, or take advantage by eeking out those couple of extra yards? Or term them as ball carriers unless they're in the pocket or clearly heading out of bounds?

Dirty implies intent. I dont think the defender meant to hurt him like that.

But, its like involuntary manslaughter. That doesnt absolve you of punishment.

How he supposed to know if you gonna juke or slide?! If he don’t attempt to hit you and you don’t slide he gone. You can’t run in front of a speeding train and decide last second you want to live lol. But on the real, you gotta slide sooner or you put yourself in danger as the QB.

Hit was not dirty in my book, it was a bang bang play.

Celebrating and taunting after the dude is seizing and has a fencing response on the field is a BAD look for that dude and all his teammates he was laughing and dapping up with.

That was a dirty hit for sure. But these quarterbacks you never know what you're going to get. Remember that dork from LSU that faked the slide and then the defender let up and he ran in for a touchdown well that shouldn't be allowed so I get it.

If you are a QB and take off running, no sliding...this isn't Lingerie Football League.

It’s football not a cupcake baking class. If you’re going to take off running then expect to take a hit. If you don’t want hit then run out of bounds. This sliding crap is bs and these QB think they can just run as they please and hit the slide button and defenders should just play flag football. **** you see Leavitt out there take ng big hits. Even Mateer doing the helicopter. You can’t even tackle these fools standing up without a flag being called.

He should have to sit out for more time than the targeting penalty for acting like a classless moronic a-hole on the sideline. Low IQ guy who apparently doesn’t realize (or doesn’t care) that his behavior reflects on the whole team and coaches.

It was a bad hit. Easy targeting call. But the worst part was just optics after celebrating for 15 minutes and laughing while Moore is on the ground twitching. His intent was probably to hurt him.

I agree with this and other similar comments.

The unexpected part is that the USC player probably helped Oregon because Raiola might be better than Moore (who has never impressed me). The hit also seemed to galvanize Oregon.
