Now that the emotions have calmed, I had to sit back and really take in that we are really 6-0. I know we were 6-0 in 2013, but this time it feels different. Maybe it's because we now have a proven winning coach vs. a guy who's claim to fame was a 9 win Temple team.
I mentioned in the game discussion forum that this team have been frustrating to watch. At that point, I was too involved in the game. On paper, we should've manhandled our last 3 opponents, yet all 3 games have been nail biters, dramatic finishes, the "hold your breath" moments. It has been frustrating to see....BUT, what would've been the results just two years ago? Instead of being 6-0, most likely we would be 3-3.
We had a different culture here; when we faced adversity, any push back: we folded, we gave up, and the players had 0 leadership to look to from their coaches.
Richt has done the exact opposite, and he's built a staff that follows his lead. Yes, they still make silly, untimely mistakes, but b/c Richt has now created a winning culture here, the kids don't give up. Instead of gasping for air in the latter stages of the 4th like most teams, they get new wind. The tougher the moment, the more they thrive, and THAT'S the make up of a championship caliber team.
The media can call us fake all they want, they can scoff at our 6-0 record; but the fact is, a lot of folks called for upsets the last two weeks...it didn't happen. The fact is, when adversity hit Clemson, against this same Cuse team we beat, they folded.
After 13 miserable years, our Canes are winning. It's not pretty, BUT we are winning. It's our 1st time being 4-0 in conference play, as well. The arrow is pointing up, and as long as that winning culture is instilled in that locker room, sky is the limit moving forward.
