Up voted for the veracity of your argument. That said, you're mostly wrong IMO.
I too was saddened to see a banner flying yesterday. IMO it was posters who wanted to make themselves part of the story, due in large part to the fact that under Golden, posters were 100% correct in flying those banners. Donna was financially raping the football program and seemed to be intentionally trying to keep UM football down. Blake James was either incompetent or completely under Donna's thumb (my guess is the latter). Moreover, the religious angle was as poor of form as it gets.
You kind of show your *** when you talked about the unnamed board of trustee member(s). I know this because I was fortunate enough to know that multiple trustees went to and had a very direct conversation with Blake James a week before that article posted. My guess is that the Herald writer betrayed a confidence in printing that story. You'll notice I didn't post anything here because the info was given to me in confidence.
You bring up an interesting point about going from positive to completely negative in a one year span. IMO that is where the real debate resides. Even though we had a ten win season and beat the big 3 (FSU, VT, ND) we looked horrible on offense in several games. Many of the knowledge football posters here were still calling for Mark Richt to hire a play caller, so its not like this issue just came up in 2018. We'd been seeing it since Richt arrived. That combined with the lack of QB development while a nepotism hire is in that role is what's fanning the flames of resentment. Jon Richt's resume is a joke and the results have been poor. What other conclusion can be drawn?
For me, the fact that Blake James gives out big money extensions based on one year of success is a big factor in all of this. Its time for Blake James to justify his actions, if not to us here in the marketplace, at a minimum to those on the board of trustees who desire an elite UM football program.
C'mon a 5-year old kid knows that even with an off-the-record agreement you don't go to a reporter and start blabbering about sensitive issues that could be very damaging to the institution or cause you represent if said reporter shared the comments publicly. Also, that is a very serious charge to insinuate about Barry Jackson.
As for the banners, even Golden deserved better treatment than he received by the almost always stampeding Herd.
Yes, you help make my point, a number of Trustees supposedly went to Blake James to express their concerns, they didn't all elbow their way into Barry Jackson's office and start babbling like Chatty Kathy Dolls. They visited their Athletic Director, the "Prominent Trustee" went to a reporter. One approach was ethical and professional, the other approach bereft of integrity and unprofessional. This time I did show my ****.
When someone is already destroying a business or football team (or power plant), trying to stop them from doing it and replacing them with more competence is not "burning down" the businness, it's an attempt to rescue it. To say otherwise is either either blatant lying or incredibly stupid.
You have not one clue about what you are talking about, and making that ignorance all the more disappointing is the Miami Football Program endured the same Herd attack only a few short years ago that is still weighing heavily on the efforts to move upward.
~When Herd members are promoting the destroying of Mark Richt's son as a method to motivate his father to resign, that is burning the football program down.
~When Herd members attack a head coach's religious beliefs, that is burning the football program down.
~When Herd members from the first kick-off to the final kick-off last season complained 24/7 about everything under the sun, that is burning the football program down.
~When Herd members fly banner planes displaying messages designed to humiliate the head football coach on a national scale, that is burning the football program down.
~When a Trustee goes to a Miami Herald reporter with the intent to carve up the head coach, other coaches, the athletic director, current and former presidents of the university, that's burning the football program down.
Mark Richt may very well resign not wanting to further be associated with a classless, ignorant, morally corrupt confederacy of dunces. And if he does, Miami will NEVER win another national championship and be extremely lucky to be simply average, and the Herd members will then slither back into the swamp they came from.
I only have one request, please publish your list of potential replacement coaches, because I want to save it for the day that new coach is named as that is going to be hilarious.
