Did Mario think ND was out of timeouts at the end?

Dawson addressed this, said he had two plays called. One a "safe pass" the other a run. He chose to run. He said because with no timeouts left. Notre Dame wasnt going to score on this defense with a minute left. He said he goes up against the defense everyday in the two minute drill and said it was likely we'd get a sack with bain and mesidor unleashed. A sack would run at least 30 seconds off the clock.
They are scored 24 with a QB in. In his first start, a little ****y.

Thank u; b/c apparently we hired a guy who’s supposed to curate this, so I’m not sure how you don’t know a team’s timeout situation when all u need to do is either look up or that staff member tells u.
My seat faces the Miami bench.
Do I have to start bringing cue cards to the **** game???

50/50 blame to both Mario and Dawson. He should’ve been aware of the timeouts just the same as Mario and the should’ve talked it over. I was honestly ****ed that we didn’t put the ball in Becks hand to try and finish the game off right then and there, but at least it led to some great plays from Mesidor & Bain.
A part of me was thinking '23 A&M as well, but a play similar to Arroyo VT last year.

I give the guy a ton of credit, and he does deserve plenty of it, but I'd be remiss to not point out flaws.

Go back and watch the game again. Mario had no idea ND still had 1 timeout left when we ran the ball on 3rd and 4 at the end of the game.

There was 1:14 left to go in the game, we had 3rd and 4 from the ND 30. After the 1 yard run from Brown, they cut to Mario, and you can see him confused and saying "NO WAY!". I'm 100% convinced he was yelling at the refs thinking ND was out of timeouts when they clearly had 1 left. He was thinking he could run it down to about 30 seconds and kick the FG, and even if you miss, you're probably going to overtime. Otherwise, why are you playing for a FG with a minute left?

So instead of running it down to 30 seconds like he thought they would, you have to kick with over a minute left, and now even if you make it, you leave them a full minute to just go down to get a FG to tie the game.

Thankfully the defense bailed us out and completely swallowed Carr on the last drive, but this is maddening stuff. The dude has so many positive qualities and I was fully in support of him getting this job, and still am because the program has been flipped, but **** you've been a Head Coach for 15 years now, this is stuff that an 8 year old playing Madden is on top of.

If I'm wrong, someone tell me how and I'll gladly delete this. But I was at the game and going berserk how we played it, and it still makes very little sense but it makes slightly more if you know he thinks they were out of timeouts. Watching it back, I almost fell off the couch and immediately said to myself, "Holy ****, he thought they were out of timeouts".

I go to all the games. That dot TO scoreboard is often wrong.

That’s not meant to either absolve or blame the coaches, because they shouldn’t go by the scoreboard anyway. I’m sure they keep track of it in the sidelines. Whether this was a screwup or not is another issue. But I would never trust the scoreboard.

I just don't understand how this guy can be so buttoned up with everything else. He's evolved quite a bit. But this game day **** is wild. He looks insane on the sidelines. His eyes are ******* wide open, he's awkward, mouth is dry AF. Maybe lay off the 19 Cuban coffees and just go low dose adderall?
Bro..i been keeping an eye on him since he got here he always looks SUPER nervous and tense.

I understand football is emotional but man, this mf paces up and down the sidelines all game like he’s ready to run on the field lmao

I think he thought they burned it on an injury.

the one in the first half he said the defensive guy was on top our player for like 10 seconds and he called it because the refs did nothing.

I don't know how to say this any other way.

You CAN'T "burn it on an injury". If it is a legit injury, it's a ref-given injury timeout. If it's a FAKE injury, then the refs will announce the timeout has been deducted.

If a "fake injury" is determined and a timeout is assessed, then it would have been announced. Also, during the first and second timeouts, the refs DID announce the timeouts as "first timeout" and "second timeout".

If a team actually felt they had to take a timeout for a legitimate injury, the refs will give the timeout back. The same is true if the refs make a running clock mistake, where they SHOULD HAVE stopped the clock but a team chooses to call a timeout. The refs give the timeout back.

The situation at the end of the first half was a weird one where the refs did not see the Notre Dame bull**** And while we protested, I'm not sure the refs could do anything or needed to do anything. There is no "instant replay" for such a situation, and the half was nearly over anyhow. If anything, the refs should have put a few seconds back on the clock.

I'm on your side, actually right behind you in row 1 of the club section.
Yes, that's what I posted.
It was the center scoreboard showing 2 TO's when only 1 was left.

Yes. I didn't think I was crazy. For that sequence, the scoreboard was showing TOO MANY timeouts, instead of NOT ENOUGH timeouts.

I even commented on that to my brother sitting next to me. It was bizarre. Usually the refs will make a comment and ask the scoreboard operator to adjust it accordingly.

I'm not sure about the view from the "home" side looking at the scoreboard above my head (and in front of you). If THAT one was showing the opposite (too FEW timeouts remaining), then there is an equipment malfunction.

Who cares!

I would have liked to see a safe wrinkle in there (PA throw to the flat) but I don’t care cause it worked out, confusion or not. Beat a top 10 team in prime time that played in the natty last year. 1-0.

It could be, but he also could’ve just trusted his defense to pin their ears back with no timeouts left for Notre Dame and close out the game. Which is what happened.
