Did COVID-19 Give Diaz A Pass?

King will get him at least another 2 years IMO if we are able to play in 2020, Miami will win 10 games this year, and probably make the ACC ship (See North carolina).

No CFB this season, so he won't get fired. Will he still get paid? That's an interesting question.

Next game will be week 1 2021 vs. Bama, and we'll lose 50-10 or something.
 
IMO, it will not have an effect. Every coach in the country is dealing with the same thing. If there's a season and we look underwhelming in comparison to opponents who dealt with a situation no different than ours, then the proof is in the pudding.
 
Manny is hoping for the 2020 season to be cancelled so he can have King against Bama. He’s the only chance we have at not getting beat by 50
 
If they play in empty stadiums, we should be as good or better than anyone in that drpartment.

Hey, somebody had to go there.

Who knows about the original question though.

Beat me to it. Only if we don’t play, does his leash get extended for another year.

People just don’t realize the amount of dissatisfaction there is among the actual movers and shakers. Had he won his last three games, or maybe even two out of the three, we might not be having this conversation.

Nobody is giving anybody a leash that lost to FIU, Duke, and Louisiana Tech all in a row.

This guy better be kissing 10 wins at a minimum if we play.

Anything less than that, and many of us will personally walk into the athletic department to withdraw our support.

Fūcking make Lashlee the coach before I put up with another year of mediocrity and lack of effort.

IF this COVID-19 event impacts the start of the season, it already has by canceling what was left of Spring Ball, I think a few (not all) HCs that have similar situations just by nature of their institutions, are going to get a "yeah, but".

If he goes winless--COVID probably doesn't save him. If Canes repeat "underperforming", the volume of cacophony overall (this board will still FTB) will likely be lessened and he will get credit for "taking care of the team through unprecedented times" and limp even worse than he is now, into 2021.

Define "win a whole lot". Call it.


My concern is with real/perceived COVID 19 impacts, he probably survives a 7-ish win season, where previously I wouldn't think so.

To some degree....not all teams are facing the same level of disappointment from the year prior, the wholesale change on O, and a HC that continues to show he is not up to the task.

Several of the teams on Miami's 2020 schedule have much more stability.

In Lashlee we trust....

until we don't.

The BoT could have fired him last year--the will was simply not there in the amount necessary.

Right/wrong/indifferent--it just wasn't and he remains HC to this day.

Name for me how many non-interim coaches have been fired after one year in college football? It’s not about will, it’s more a logical progression. The consensus had to be give him and Blake one more year. If it was up to me it would’ve been different, but you have to have consensus among a small handful and I’m sure there were one or two holdouts. That won’t be the problem at the end of this season

How many first year HCs, in today's every increasing "win this instant" environment, lost to essentially several high school squads and one team that had just installed the forward pass as a routine concept?

Weren't the 2019 Canes supposed to be in "we got better mode" rather than "we are rebuilding"?

I agree Miami was in a difficult position with firing Diaz after 2019's disaster. Regardless, no matter how high that bar was, the will wasn't there. Also, probably no small amount of second guessing and "what have we done" hand wringing at senior levels.

In Lashlee we trust, until we don't.

Unfortunately you or I don't get to write Diaz's end of season report on if he stays.

Again, if this COVID event spills into Fall, my concern is growing he survives to 2021 with less than 10 wins.
