Diaz panic

LOL at the panic and the characterization of him jumping at the first thing offered.

Diaz just got an incredible opportunity, and he got it by coming here. No one was looking for him to be their HC before he got here. He was seen as a journeyman DC with spotty success.

Comes here and does what every dc not named Doritos has done here (4-3 downhill defense), and now he’s a HC 3 years later. That’s a **** good selling point to ANY hungry DC. Miami makes DCs not the other way around.

On top of all that, we with all of his glaringly obvious faults, pretty sure Sleepy’s last 3 DC hires were Grantham, Pruitt, and Diaz.

Take a look at a guy like Tracy Claeys or some guy like him who has had excellent results at lower tier programs. We’re not going to poach Venables or Aranda, but we don’t have to. Any good DC can kill it at UM. Even some mediocre ones have done well here and never matched the success they had here anywhere else.

#boom not rocket science!!

Agreed. Use the extra spot to hopefully hire an OC or even a ST coach. LB coach should be easy to fill.

Agree with this. And I don't mind having a DC also be a position coach. I think Manny did fine with the LBs for the most part.

Diaz had a great season but at this time last year this was a dream scenario. People were calling for his head more than Richts.

A lot can change in a year huh? We will find another DC that will find the cupboards stacked with a lot blue chip talent to work with.
It's crazy what arguably the best Defensive Tackle we've had in over a decade, an All American MLB, and an All American Senior Safety can do for your resume.

The Linebackers -- Manny's unit -- were easily the worst coached unit on Defense this season.

Makes me upset, but this is well-deserved from Manny no matter which way you spin it and this was coming sooner or later even if we made him HCIW. Definitely agree that you don’t have to get a DC of the same quality for these insane atheletes on D to thrive and be successful.

Imo, just hire someone with an aggressive coaching style, someone who favors a 4-3 but is OPEN to altering his scheme to fit his personnel, a guy who can get his players fired up to play 60 min every week and refuses to accept complacency. Having SoFla ties would be a huge bonus for recruiting & culture too.

Id look at a guy like derek nicholson at southern miss. Co-dc for a top 10 defense in the country. could come in and be dc and coach linebackers like he played and is doing now

Would be my first 2 calls.

Miami has and will always have fantastic athletes on defense. Hire an attacking, aggressive DC, and Miami will be fine.

Miami just lost, as a coach, the biggest reason why the record wasn't sub .500. The recruiting is not strong right now either. How many quality kids say no now that Manny is, or will be, gone? Miami can not take a one year hit in recruiting. Richt needs every bit of talent he can get to muster an average team.

Miami is going to need a big, productive yearly effort by their defense to offset the putrid offense.

I will be shocked to see Miami land a quality replacement at this point. Who in their right mind wants to be a part of Richt's staff? Probably nobody that will make an impact.

What is most troubling is some of the undisclosed reasons on why Manny is leaving. Richt's refusal to make changes on Offense and the direction of the Program played a huge role.

Bulls eye! It would be career suicide for an experienced DC to come to Miami now. That's why CMR will probably hire " an up and coming " inexperienced DC. Just saying.
