LOL at the panic and the characterization of him jumping at the first thing offered.

Diaz just got an incredible opportunity, and he got it by coming here. No one was looking for him to be their HC before he got here. He was seen as a journeyman DC with spotty success.

Comes here and does what every dc not named Doritos has done here (4-3 downhill defense), and now he’s a HC 3 years later. That’s a **** good selling point to ANY hungry DC. Miami makes DCs not the other way around.

On top of all that, we with all of his glaringly obvious faults, pretty sure Sleepy’s last 3 DC hires were Grantham, Pruitt, and Diaz.

Take a look at a guy like Tracy Claeys or some guy like him who has had excellent results at lower tier programs. We’re not going to poach Venables or Aranda, but we don’t have to. Any good DC can kill it at UM. Even some mediocre ones have done well here and never matched the success they had here anywhere else.

I liked Diaz but I agree with Franchise. Anybody who doesn't muck it up with an overcomplicated two gap, BS system that doesn't take advantage of athleticism can run a successful defense at Miami. I mean Randy Shannon has been pretty much terrible everywhere he's been but he still ran a great defense here. I'm not nearly as concerned about losing Manny as I am about the offensive staff.

Thanks, Chise. Your post brought me off the ledge.

Great post . How many people were probably complaining about the hire of Diaz? I had a lot of reservations about him based on Texas. He happened to be a very strong fit with the players here and proved he's a very good DC but only in the right circumstances (which we had).

Like you said, a young up and coming guy at a lower tier program, who's had success and wants to move up (and runs typically an aggressive scheme) could easily be great here.

I agree! Richt gave a coach with a spotty resume a chance and he did very well with elite talent! So, who is up next?
