Diaz comments on team after first scrimmage

Thing I got from what was said other than all the QB squabbling was that Robert Knowles was the lead tackler which to me means the RBs were getting to the next level which means our OL was getting a push which would be great or that our DL was giving up large chunks of yardage in the run game.

I’m hoping it’s because our OL was getting good push against what’s supposed to be a great DL and not the alternative..

Now back to the squabbling about the QBs.
safeties have always been the lead tacklers in manny's defense. the entire reason we're able to play so downhill at LB and take chances shooting gaps the way we do is having sound tackling DBs.

To be fair, they’re not miracle workers.

we got a week to go till they decide i guess. i think for the better of the fan base, we got a dose of reality on what UM (likely) thinks of the QB play. no one is standing out. you heard it from UM giving the info to barry. no one was great (jarren was meh better, but not really). they all struggled. the OL wasn't good. its good to see where were at, which is what these scrimmages are for. lets hope theyre ready for 8/24.

prolly that. i don't think its that deep if Manny allowed the opinion to be Jarren played slightly better than the others but not all that special
Frankly we don't know what Manny allowed. It is doubtful he would've sanctioned a staffer to say one QB performed better than the other. **** the observer that Jackson talked to could've been a booster.

man your screen name makes it seem like youre from the area. you know barry jackson is more reliable than not when he's getting this much detail into the thoughts. this isn't some joe blow on a message board. none of it was his opinion either. like canes brotherhood said, this is likely what UM allowed to be released, which is fair considering how in depth and in detail it was. you can keep denying it, but its more probable that the info is from a staffer that was meant to be released.

The opinion that Willams played better came from an "observer", not even a staffer. That observer could've been a booster. Someone Diaz has no control over.

agree to disagree. manny has been pretty good with leaks since he got rid of former staffers. also, it wasnt really an endorsement of williams either. they ALL struggled. whether d thinks tate played better, barrys source thinks J played better, or kosis mom thinks he played better, it wasn't a ringing endorsement of any of the three. luckily its only the first scrimmage and they'll fight it out for another weekend before decisions for UF are made.

1. Tate won almost every weekly weightlifting award
2. Enos and Manny have consistently praised his level of maturity and how much extra time he spends studying, etc. haven’t heard the same type of praise for Jarren or Perry
3. On paper to date, Tate has the better resume in my opinion
4. Manny was here for Perry’s screwups
Resume! What game has he started and won at college level on the road and home in sold out stadium? Let’s just say you prefer Martell than the other two QBs. I look objectively and Perry has the ability to effectively use the entire offensive scheme. Teams will not respect Martell passing, which is the reason OSU former OC and current HC went after an elite dual threat quarterback. Dual threat: Vick, RGIII, Murray, Cam Newton, Charlie Ward, etc.
Martell is a fan favorite but he is still not the best quarterback on this team. Over, he has thrown the most interceptions and poor passes of any quarterbacks. Diaz will lose the team if he choose Martell. Thomas and other speedy receivers will become frustrated again because Martell can not make the throws.

Believe me as a Packers fan I know all about how Rodgers runs. He makes that O line look a lot better than they are. I didn't say anything about being a great athlete, obviously they all are. The point I am making is strength and how that correlates to the QB position.
Rogers can throw and very accurate too. Who are you comparing him to....?

The defense put us in position and he had a few big time throws. I don't think he 'put the team on his back' with 40% completions.

Credit where credit is due though on those throws.
Can Martell make those throws? Can Martell pass us back into a game down by 20? Remember, Cager dropped two TD! Perry was a redshirt freshman and you cannot give him any credit for his performance. The kid was on a big stage on television, and took some shots in the mouth. He made big time throws for an inexperienced quarterback. SMH

Like I said, Barry was wrong about Tate rushing for his TD. It was the throw to Harley.

Also, the Baxa FG at the end was to “win” the scrimmage. Tate got the ball with 1:16 left (ones v. ones) and set up the FG.
How far Did he drive the offense? That’s a big time drive for him IMO vs the 1st team D

It's moving week, time to see who is going to step up and play. Time to see who "has to have it."

I like the QB race thus far. there isn't 1 guy falling out and it's really making all three step their game up and compete for the job, in every facet of the job. On the field and off, this is great stuff. If i were to handicap the race it i would go like this...I think Jarren and Tate are neck and neck coming into the last turn, but watch out for Kosi on the outside. Right now it appears he is pacing he leaders. Lets see if he can make a break for it! regardless were going to get something from that position this year it looks like.

As for the OL. I really hope our tackles can be serviceable. That allows us to have a pretty tough, nasty, strong interior who should be able to play at a high level in DS51, GC65, and ND55. That bodes well for short yardage, especially if Realus can step up. If those T's can't be serviceable then Cleve Reed becomes the most important guy. If he can give quality at the G spot that allows us to kick DS51 out to a tackle spot. We'll see, but lets see what out tackles give us next scrimmage. Tough to gauge as i don't know if many teams can come in waves with edge rushers like we can.

Wow you got all this mapped out and figured out....I’m hoping Manny sees this and makes sure he doesn’t name Tate as the QB for fear of losing the team....
All Cane fans should be indebted to you for letting Manny know this...thanks

i dont know if that video is sped up, but the action looks very fast

I went to two Spring games in 2016. The speed those boys were moving at made the game look crazy scary.

It don’t look like that on TV or from section 143. And I think we’ve gotten way faster.
