Diaz and staff deserve some praise.....

Lol we’ve been outgained in total the last 3 games. What turnaround is there?
You probably ride the short bus so this may be over your head. Lville had a great game offensively so I won’t take nothing away from them. But our special teams are playing lights out at the moment. It’s hard to get long scoring drives going when you have the ball in the opponents half of the field most of the time. But continue with your stupidity since the MODs have allowed you to troll in peace.

EVERY win makes Cane fans happy.:based-duke2:

Diaz is finally doing some what he was hired for and said he would do.... and what was expected of him and the coaching staff, when this season began.

BUT ......SORRY..... you don't get praise for finally doing what was expected of you in the 1st place.....try it at work

You get praise :encouragement:....for exceeding expectations

This season is a failure by any measure. The one and only positive this year is the team seems to be improving finally. Need to keep that trend going.
This team lost a bunch of close games early on. Games they did not deserve to win in most cases.
Much of it due to Qbs and OLs still learning how to become players in a new system and our Kickers looking horrible.

Now it seems like the team is getting better and that is not a failure. It could be the beginning of something huge.

We've also sat back in Shotgun for the last few games. That takes so much pressure off the Oline (and of course limits the plays you can run).

Thats why I like the implementation of 'the Pistol', which UM has used a lot recently

The last thing I would like to see to this offensive package is a quicker tempo, at times.

That was another one of Manny's rookie mistakes. He should have taken a page out of the Lou Holtz playbook and constantly bemoaned our youth, depth, inexperience at QB, poor special teams and so on. Lou was the master sandbager.

The thing with Diaz is that he seems to be aware of his mistakes and has shown the willingness and ability to correct them. That's a great quality to have.

I wanted a 52-17 type win.

I love the win. LOVE it. But. I DID NOT want them to crease us as often as they did on the ground. Didn’t like our DT rotation. Expected us to adjust better after half. Was not happy about that at all. UL confirmed my thoughts about our defense and Baker.

We’re too slow, and he’s still a mediocre PC.

But - AGAIN - I love the win.
I concur. The one thing that bothers me the most is the fact that we are indeed too slow on defense. That can never be the case at UM. The other thing that bothers me is Blake Baker. He is IMO the weakest link in this staff and I hate to say it but he has to go. Diaz cannot afford the luxury of keeping Baker on because they are friends. Diaz needs to bring in an experienced DC so he can concentrate on HC duties and not have to constantly babysit one of his coordinators. There may be a DC with Head coaching experience that could become available after the season. Not going to give the name but Manny needs to look into that.

Entirely too slow on defense. And I agree we need a proven DC.

he displayed it during his time as DC here and he appears to be displaying it again. hopefully, HOPEFULLY, we can see a same kind of overall jump over this next offseason that we did with the defense from 2016 to 2017. if that happens...we're gonna make some noise next year.

Need 3 more wins to finish 9-4 and even that would be below expectations so let’s relax.ast two weeks have been very
Enjoyable though

Reality is that those of us who said that we expected a 10 win season MINIMUM and an ACC coastal title weren't being objective. I realize it now. Diaz took over a 7 win team (7 wins with a potential HOF coach!) with no QB. As a matter of fact, our current starting QB was 3rd on the depth chart and was likely transferring. Even the much ballyhooed 2017 team was closer to an 8 win team than a 10 win team (took two miraculous catches against not great competition).

In the 21st century, I think only one 1st time HC (not a head coach moving from one program to another) at a P5 improved a team by 2 or more games over his predecessor and won his division- Gus Malzahn. That Auburn team was less than 3 years removed from a national title so he wasnt exactly inheriting a team with a broken culture. To expect Diaz to be just the 2nd coach in the 21st century to accomplish that feat is unreasonable, especially given that the 2018 team was an offensive disaster and the QBs had virtually zero coaching.

The staff doesn't need praise, they need extensions.
Jenn Straws & Flake were probably working on an extension for Manny as the seconds were ticking away against GT....and thinking how they need to lock Manny down now!

In all seriousness, the players deserve a lot of credit for inspiring each other at the players only meeting. I think Jarren & the OL have improved the most since that meeting.

Manny deserves props for making a tough decision & re-inserting himself on Defense. It has yielded dramatic improvement.

While he seemed to be doing a poor job early in the season, Butch Barry's group has been pretty solid from the Pitt game onwards. How much of that was the players meeting & how much was that Butch Barry coaching them up? Hard to say but you have to say that the unit has improved considerably (albeit from a very poor start).

Special teams have also improved considerably. I'm sure Manny also became more involved in ST and that's part of it. Patke likely realized also that his a@@ would be grass if he didn't start generating some improvement. We actually had a legit blocked punt for the first time in like a decade against UL (mad props to Blades Jr for that). That was old school Canes football. Thank God we have Price handling short FGs & PATs (the biggest single factor in 2-3 of our losses). KJ also makes more happen out of nothing than JT on PR. Special teams have improved (albeit from a real low point at the beginning of the season).

The staff does deserve some credit for engineering a turnaround after a 3-4 start. Things really could have headed south at the point. A record of 3-7 (which was very possible after that start) could have really damaged recruiting & started a vicious downcycle. These last three wins were huge in terms of momentum for the program. The players also deserve significant props for the turnaround. I'm sure that players like Deejay & Trevon played a major leadership role in the team meeting. That has paid huge dividends.

Let's finish the regular season strong with two wins & then win a quality bowl game. We can build from there.

If our schedule wasn't as pathetic I would agree with you...but it was/is. The AAC has better teams than the Coastal

So because their best player broke a long one on our second string defense you’re in your feel feels about the W? Sounds reasonable hahaha. Get a grip mane. Louisville averages 32.8 points a game and have a good offense. We held them under their averages and whooped that ***. Yet you’re still salty. U must be a joy to be around

Perhaps the problem is unrealistic expectations for a team full of young guys and new coaches.....
If we manage to finish the year 9-4, I'll be a lot calmer than just a few weeks ago. But, I won't be doing backflips either. There is nothing unrealistic about expecting to beat a historically bad Georgia Tech team at home.
