Dial down the blitzes

Diaz's blitz packages are a very predictable. I see a few things occurring as a result; opponents are getting into the vacated area and converting for big yards. UM is not getting home in time or flat out whiffing on the QB. We are talented enough to rush four and make QB's throw into the teeth of a very good secondary instead of routinely giving up 3rd and long by leaving guys uncovered.

Also, what's up with the containment along the front. The past two weeks we've seen QBs with average to below average foot speed running on UM's defense. It's not like Michael Vick is out there. Can a team have sound gap control and make plays behind the LOS?

no come on, UNC was literally anticipating these blitzes

We're they? If that were the case then we would've gotten beat.

DJacks tweet said it best we don't know what we want. We hated No D and is passive style, but then we get aggressive and he's too cute and blitzes to much. Just sit back and let our front 4 get there. Wasn't that what we hated about Randy being the DC?

This is the problem with the internet. Any f*&kstick with a data plan or internet connection is now a guru. We should do this, we should do that, we should be this, we should be that. I mean listen to half of you (which i doubt are fans or you have a clear agenda) complain. We are an aggressive defense playing aggressive, but it isn't enough. Now you want to play passive because the Dline people called overrated after the first couple of games is now ready to dominate by themselves.

It's called adjusting to what works. It doesn't have to be one way or the other and how about disguising them or showing it but backing out?

I noticed we adjusted at halftime and Diaz slowed down a bit. Started dropping 7 rushing 4.

Actually, it is like Michael Vick is out there.

Every team we play.

What's the point of a sports message board if we don't discuss the team?

You rather we sit in a circle jerk all season.

No, don't get me wrong, I love watching you guys talk as though you know more than the guys who do this for a living. By all means, keep telling us what kind of defense YOU would run.

I’m not a coach but I know more than D’ Onofrio.

On a serious note, OP makes valid point. The delayed blitzes haven’t been working. Wouldn’t mind letting the front four go to work a tad more.

What's the obsession with this board about motions, shifts, show blitz and back out, do this, do that.

Let me ask you an honest question...what is the point of a blitz?

Right, like when Duke was "doing whatever they want against Diaz".

Every team we play has Michael Vick, but we're 7-0. You're really good at this.

To attack and try to get a sack, stone the RB or hurry the QB. That sounds great but if you can't get there or the QB is just quickly tossing it to the now voided area, stop. U disguise so they're not expecting it and you show and back out to create confussion and hope they do toss it so you've dropped back to the expected void and make a play or get a pick. Like I said, switch it up and keep them guessing. Doing it over and over and showing them you're doing it is ineffective.

No dude, the main problem with the internet is people running to message boards trying to tell posters what they should and should not discuss. Go listen to CMR presser after the game where he addresses many of the same issues. Winning always beats losing. But don't sit there and act as if the players, coaches or fans are satified with a 5 point victory over a 1-win team. Further, just because you're not blitzing as much doesn't mean you're playing passive. The point of the OP was not being predictable, not vacating areas your opponents are trained to exploit, and making teams attack a surprisingly improving secondary. Ready, set, groupthink.
