Dexter Williams shoots down rumors

ESPN 300 No. 78 Dexter Williams said on Friday that he is “wavering” on his Miami pledge. He has Ohio State, South Carolina and Tennessee along with the Hurricanes as his top schools.

He really put the rumors to rest with this comment
ESPN probably read that on another site a month ago and thought it had to be true. Worst website when it comes to updates and interviews with kids.

The ESPN guy was at South Carolina when Williams was there

I've never heard a recruit use the word "wavering". That is a word recruiting reporter uses. No way that is a direct quote.

Fact is most "waver". Bama has had a couple de-commits, top QB and some other cat. When you got all these teams promising you the world these kids a constantly wondering, changing their minds and being twisted in all kinds of ways. The best thing for a recruit to do once he has committed, is to not talk to other teams, take visits or have conversations with people trying to persuade him to consider all options. Otherwise it like trying to choose which one of the Hawaiian Tropic girls you want to do first as they strut across stage and promising freaky *** with you. Who do you choose :)

Agreed. Not to insult the dude's intelligence, but I have heard many reporters ask questions that the player either did not fully listen to or did not completely hear or understand and start his answer with "Yes" and then say something entirely "recruit speak" about different schools.

Are you wavering in your commitment to Miami? "Yes" -- Miami is great. Blah blah blah. Getting lots of attention. Like Miami. Good schools. USC. Blah Blah Blah. Coaches. Offers. Visits. Blah Blah Blah.

Not saying it happened in this case or that Williams is not wavering, but we knew it would be a battle to keep him and this ESPN bit does nothing to move the needle in either direction in my mind.

Oh yea he's SOLID AS A ROCK....

Winter Garden (Fla.) West Orange running back Dexter Williams, a current Miami commit, was considering a visit to Florida this weekend, but that trip is now off. The 6-foot, 190-pound speedster is now looking to visit Gainesville sometime next week along with teammate and current Florida commit Jalen Julius.

The Gators are hoping they can flip the Top247 back as they continue to look to add more speed to their offense.

247Sports currently ranks Williams as the nation's No. 62 overall prospect and the No. 4 running back in the 2015 class.

I'll never give a name, but I can 100% guarantee that 2 years ago a UF coach offered a player/ friend I know 10K cash for a commitment. TIFWIW but this money didn't come from a Bag Man.

Exactly why this coach isn't at UF anymore. Muschamp knew he wasn't being cautious. But it's not just UF, I've seen multiple schools offer cash and rewards for some high profile Palm Beach County recruits over the last 5 years. Only way this is going to stop is if College players end up getting paid.

**** that coach sounds like a cheap ***, S. Fla kids start their opening commitment bids at $30k. No wonder UF looses recruits to LSU and Bama. **** Derrick Henry's rims on the 2013 Camaro Bama gave him cost more than $10k, never mind how much the car cost.

Go Canes

Not for nothing but playing college players will not stop coaches/bagmen from offering kids more money. If you read the article called "Bagman" that came out in April, the "bagman" himself said he thinks college players should get paid about 40k a year, but then said what's gonna stop a "booster" from making sure that 4 or 5* kid gets an extra 40k on the side.

The fact that they'll risk losing the $40k guaranteed.

It would be hard to say that the recruiting process has gone exactly to plan for West Orange running back and Cane commit Dexter Williams.

After an explosion of major offers in February and March, Williams (6-0, 192) surprised many with an April decision at Miami’s spring game.
“I thought things would slow down but it actually hasn’t,” Williams said. “At that time in my mind, I was thinking that they would look at me like I was done with the recruiting process. They probably figured I was shutting it down and I wouldn’t be open. A lot of schools are still coming at me, some even harder than before. They’re doing anything to get me on a visit or talk to my coaches. They keep tabs on me and check up every day.”
Williams admitted that he may have jumped the gun with his choice. He says that in regards to when he did it, not who he picked.
“At times, I regret making an early decision,” Williams said. “It’s nothing against Miami, they could definitely be the right place for me. I just think maybe it would have been smarter if I waited longer.”
Williams recently got his first real chance to investigate into his other options. He took a lengthy college tour that stopped at Georgia Tech, Louisville, Ohio State, Kentucky, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Clemson.
“I got to experience a lot of new things because other places outside Florida are different,” Williams said. “It was a good opportunity for me to see all these top schools so quickly. They have a lot to offer and it changed how I look at everything. Everybody has something in common but also something that makes them unique. It’s hard to realize that you can only pick one.”
Williams said that he can sense the Miami staff is concerned about losing him. He couldn’t make any promises about where he'll land but he tried his best to be up front.
“I do, we had a little talk about that,” Williams said. “I kept it real with them and told them how I feel about the whole situation. They said still want me as a Cane because I’m one of the biggest recruits they have. They would love for me to stay since they know I could help them do big things. I plan on sticking with Miami but I want to get a better idea about some other schools.”
Williams said that the best way they can help their chances is by continuing to recruit him hard. Down the road, their on-field product may come into play too.
“Basically just do what they’ve been doing, making sure I’m alright,” Williams said. “They can keep in contact and prove how much they really want me. I also want to see how they do this season, that was actually the main reason I wanted my decision to wait. I didn’t sign anywhere yet so I’ll see how their season and everybody else’s goes.”
Williams carries a grade of 96 from 247Sports, ranking him 62nd overall in the nation, 4th at his position, and 11th in the state of Florida.
