2026 Derrek Cooper 5* RB/ATH from Chaminade Commits to Texas

Communication gets significantly better with comfort. Hard to be comfortable when you have no cohesion and very little experience collectively as a unit. That's not an excuse just my own experiences throughout the years.
People were constantly saying how slow we looked last year

To me that’s overthinking and not just playing

Sure we could use speed in every spot always but guys like Jaden Harris were actually pretty fast (track wise) so when you see them look slow on the field you know it’s just too much thinking

Bell on the OL was another. I’m far from an OL expert but looked at times he was thinking about technique rather than the person in front of him

Nowhere in my post did I say we were gonna give him more money than Texas. You buy him a ticket and all the other elite recruits for the game against Notre Dame. It really doesn’t matter whether it makes a difference with Cooper or not as long as it makes a difference with other kids. You do it to invite them to a great atmosphere a great crowd, and hopefully a good performance on the field. These kids talk they let other kids know about how good it was to be there and how electric the atmosphere is. If somebody ever tells them that Miami games are boring all they have to do is say “I went to the game and it was lit”. Has a lot of elite recruiters have said for the past few cycles, they had no idea that Miami was like this. We’re getting kids on campus that in the past we had no business getting.
You don’t do it for the immediate effect it will have on Cooper or any other kid that’s committed already. You do it to stop the narratives that have been propagated by other coaches and other fanbases. You do it to make a statement that things aren’t how they used to be. You do it to make a statement to let them know that the future is bright.
You give them a ticket you tell him to come enjoy the game because they’ve earned that right and worked hard for it. That’s it plain and simple.

Recruiting is an ongoing process. And it would be a mistake not to invite these kids to this game. How many times are we gonna be able to get a ranked opponent that was in the playoffs, at home, on Labor Day weekend?

This is a business and some of y’all are taking it too personal. Trust me, I took it way personal with Wesley. And it was stupid on my part.

You’re gonna sit there and not invite some of these kids that are committed because they took more money?
You never know what’s going on in these kids minds. You never know what’s gonna happen to any of these programs. You respect their decision, treat them like gentlemen and give them a warm welcome.
Last thing you wanna do is treat somebody like to have to come back and kiss your *** if they want in. You don’t wanna make them feel like they have to put their pride aside to come back. You take pride completely out of the equation for them and for you.
The kid has never said anything publicly about Miami or Mario or the program..

Of course, you can say that action speak louder than words. But is it really? Did Cooper really do the same things that other kids like Donell, Harris, Rambo Hunter, and other kids have done after they picked other schools?
No you didn’t say anything about money. I mentioned that the only thing Miami could do different. Was offer more money than Texas. God knows we recruited him longer and better than they have. (PAUSE). I was not saying dont invite him, but I am saying the RED CARPET TREATMENT should be put on hold. We’ve already laid it out for you and you chose to go to where they didnt give you the RED CARPET TREATMENT. I don’t think Miami could have treated him any better. We’ve been after him for 4 years. Also you make some of my points even more valid. By stating the same things he will say about the atmosphere, having a good time with other recruits, everyone showing him love and I can see myself playing here. At this time I’m still committed to Texas. Then he will finally have his OV to Texas and say the same F’ING thing.

Just wait and see who else is showing up to that game.

And why are you so worried about what he says after a visit?

Doubt it… new OC/DC and breaking in a new QB.
Well the good thing is we’re gonna find out here in two weeks. Texas going in to the shoe with all the hype and being ranked # 1 over the defending champion, a slap in the face. I hate OSU with a passion but they just reload…the way we used to.
