2026 Derrek Cooper 5* RB/ATH from Chaminade Commits to Texas

There is no way shape or form that you don’t try to get every single elite recruit that you’re chasing to come for that game.
Doesn’t mean that you’ll get them. But you can at least show them how it’s like at hard rock when a real team comes to town. It helps tone down all that rhetoric and negative recruiting about the stadium and our fans.
It’s the never ending debate with our fans. Prior staffs “don’t even try” or “gave up too quick”….now it is “**** that prima Donna, make him pay his own way”…

To be honest, I’m all about never giving up if the coaches know something about the NIL status and believe flipping is still feasible…if flipping isn’t a possibility, definitely in the **** him, let him pay his own way now.

I wouldn't entertain Cooper at all. He visited us so many times and literally made a fool at of UM and Mario. PLease don't tell me that's recruiting or not fr the weak. It's called respect, allegiance, and respect. This program will easity survive without Cooper!
I always love reading how the program that hasn't won **** in 2 decades will be fine without _____ player. You guys are doing great!

… at the cost it would take. Pretty reasonable statement. Bigger needs.

Nah, staff doesn’t care about getting “embarrassed” by 18 year old kids who change their mind every other week. This is sales you leave your ego at the door and you recruit elite players until the end no matter. Most won’t work out, but it’s those few that do that move the needle. And who knows maybe you circle back in the portal a year or two later. No point in burning bridges.

You guys are really still arguing about Cooper? Really?

It is definitely time to take up a hobby and walk away from the keyboard. Golf is time consuming. Going to the gym is good for your health. Even going for a long walk in nature will be more beneficial than having the same argument over and over again. It’s boring to read so it must be equally boring to type.

FYI, if you think this post is directed at you, it probably is.

Loser and quitter mentality.
Not at all. We recruited this dude for 4 years and probably harder than any other school than UGA. There’s Nothing more that Mario or the U can do. To show Cooper that he is wanted here. OH MY BAD JUST GIVE HIM MORE MONEY THAN TEXAS. GTFOH. I know the coaches gotta held hostage by the recruits at times, but come on my G. They (TEXAS) recruited you for like 2-3 weeks.

SEE THATS THE BULL💩. F’CK NO WE ARE NOT THE FALL BACK PLAN. If his camp/people are telling him that( NOT SAYING THEY ARE). Meaning you can always come back home. WE GOTTA CLOSE THAT F’ING DOOR. Miami was never the back up plan back in the day. I know it was years decades ago when we were able to hold that moniker. Mario CANT be preaching old school toughness and mentality. Then be willing to play rebound guy behind closed doors after hearing your girl. Get a train ran on her.

It's never really been the schemes that are the issue. They issues especially in a league that is relatively weak across the board can be dealt with one way or the other. The issue is understanding how to recruit to your scheme. No d for instance is a perfect example of that. If you put him in a place that recruits the more intellectual players. That understands communication that understands spacing that understands gap integrity etc they excel opposed to recruiting kids for instance from South Florida that play off of sheer instincts and athleticism. They don't receive high levels of coaching so they don't know how to process a lot of things they've never encountered. How can you expect the kid who's never experienced something to immediately be able to incorporate it at a high level. You're talking about doing that with an entire defense starters too deep 3D etc because nobody that you're recruiting is familiar with that blueprint.
I’m assuming/hoping that part of bringing in Heatherman was that he would mesh well with the guys we recruited and got in the portal

Realizing he still needs to get “his guys”

Disappointing that Guidrys guys looked more lost the longer he was here but I dunno what all was going on there

Nowhere in my post did I say we were gonna give him more money than Texas. You buy him a ticket and all the other elite recruits for the game against Notre Dame. It really doesn’t matter whether it makes a difference with Cooper or not as long as it makes a difference with other kids. You do it to invite them to a great atmosphere a great crowd, and hopefully a good performance on the field. These kids talk they let other kids know about how good it was to be there and how electric the atmosphere is. If somebody ever tells them that Miami games are boring all they have to do is say “I went to the game and it was lit”. Has a lot of elite recruiters have said for the past few cycles, they had no idea that Miami was like this. We’re getting kids on campus that in the past we had no business getting.
You don’t do it for the immediate effect it will have on Cooper or any other kid that’s committed already. You do it to stop the narratives that have been propagated by other coaches and other fanbases. You do it to make a statement that things aren’t how they used to be. You do it to make a statement to let them know that the future is bright.
You give them a ticket you tell him to come enjoy the game because they’ve earned that right and worked hard for it. That’s it plain and simple.

Recruiting is an ongoing process. And it would be a mistake not to invite these kids to this game. How many times are we gonna be able to get a ranked opponent that was in the playoffs, at home, on Labor Day weekend?

This is a business and some of y’all are taking it too personal. Trust me, I took it way personal with Wesley. And it was stupid on my part.

You’re gonna sit there and not invite some of these kids that are committed because they took more money?
You never know what’s going on in these kids minds. You never know what’s gonna happen to any of these programs. You respect their decision, treat them like gentlemen and give them a warm welcome.
Last thing you wanna do is treat somebody like to have to come back and kiss your *** if they want in. You don’t wanna make them feel like they have to put their pride aside to come back. You take pride completely out of the equation for them and for you.
The kid has never said anything publicly about Miami or Mario or the program..

Of course, you can say that action speak louder than words. But is it really? Did Cooper really do the same things that other kids like Donell, Harris, Rambo Hunter, and other kids have done after they picked other schools?

Communication gets significantly better with comfort. Hard to be comfortable when you have no cohesion and very little experience collectively as a unit. That's not an excuse just my own experiences throughout the years.

Why is this page still constantly being updated? Is there any news about this kid’s recruitment and him possibly flipping to us or are people still harping on this kid who picked Texas?

Last page showed he would be coming to our game against ND so comments picked back up.
