2026 Derrek Cooper 5* RB/ATH from Chaminade Commits to Texas

We dont have a safety committed lol

I can list 3 dbs i would take over cortez redding

3 of the top 10 wr stat leaders in the ncaa last year were from south florida specifically.

It appears everyone is still playing catch up.

OH yea Xavier restrepo was top 15 as well. Jacorey Brooks went for 1k yards an 9 tds landing him int he top 30

You can still get good dbs and wrs down here regularly. Guys we didnt recruit for example wind up at places like Mizzou, Auburn, FSU.

I like the current wr class though. I would like 1 s.fla kid in there though if we were taking 4.
i was just messing with you and I agree. At some point we have to stop these top end players from the area from bolting elsewhere. Not only does it hurt the team but it lets other know that S Fla is open for business.

It's a new era.

Ohio State is probably the best program in the country right now, they're on 3 years in a row with a new starter, and you'd think Sayin will be the guy next year too but who knows? If they go 9-3 or some **** they'll throw him out with the bathwater too. It's pro sports at this point, but the QBs don't get long-term contracts like the pros do.

Yeah, I wish we had a room full of studs as well, but last year we had a Heisman finalist at QB. This year we have a kid who many projected would be the #1 overall pick, let's see how he does. What if he balls out, goes to NYC, is a high pick and we win the ACC? I'd say the model is working, no? Much TBD this season.
Okay. Yes I agree to an extent. But with osu, it's possible Sayin will be the guy next yr. For us, It's a guarantee we will have someone new and it's possible that guy isn't even on our roster yet. I'm not mad with what Mario has brought in to start last yr and this yr. Hindsight is also 20/20..... the fact we had to do that means our depth(talent wise) at that position was/is SHVT. I mean it would also help if we can have more than 2 games where we have a comfortable lead and can put a backup in for real game experience. How many games did Emory play last yr? For sure the bowl game.... and we saw how that went.

Yea I like cway his post always make me laugh but he wrong on that one. Teams like that come and go. A bYU will have 10 wins once in like a ten year span then it will be someone else and then someone else. That sh always happens. The build is to be tier one and sustainable. And that comes from elite recruiting and evals. Which we are tier two, far and away from tier one, there is a huge gap, pause

You mean to tell TrumpyCane Sonny Dykes isn't an amazing coach because TCU got to the NC game?!

Our relevancy stems from being underachievers. I think Mario agrees with me because he has signed a 5th year senior at QB 2 years in a row. He is looking year to year to win. We aren't getting closer to building an osu, Texas Bama, Georgia style roster.
Agree our rosters don’t come close to those schools. They would drop 30+ on us and we wouldn’t be able to establish a running game at all. Tbh

Projected to finish 5th in the conference. Cignetti is a great program builder and NIl with a solid roster this year plus a weak schedule. They won't be in the CFP again but 10 wins is doable with who they play.
Yea it could go either way with them, agree

But... thinking about all of this.... Let's say Beck plays the full season and we make the playoffs....(using the playoffs as an example because I don't expect him to play in a meaningless bowl game)... so there's a scenario where we actually might not see much of our backup QBs play(similar to last yr)

Let's say there's going to be very good talent in the portal available at the position after the season...

Do we try to once again bring in the best available (possibility of another one year rental) portal QB or do we try to see if Nickle can carry us? At what point do you just say fvck it and rely on what you recruited?

Not sure about a mess. We had No. 1 NFL pick last year and another potential first rounder this year, two developmental QBs and a sold recruit.
Ward and Beck were 1yr rentals.... yes that's great for the season but you can't build on that. Don't get me wrong though, I'll take it. Just saying.

Btw..... who is the other developmental QB besides Nickel??

Probably every team in college football is in the identical predicament if QB1 goes down. Quality backups aren’t just sitting around. If a kid is decent he can transfer and get paid.
I mean... not having guys like Emory and Judd as your backups would definitely be an improvement for us. There's plenty of teams that has talented backups. Most might be freshman but I'll take that over what we have.

Emory played against Ball State as well as the bowl game. They wanted to make sure they kept his redshirt intact since he had to play his true freshman year when TVD got hurt. Poffenbarger came in for the other blowouts, I know he played against FAMU and USF, I think he took the last snap against Florida too.

But both Emory and Poff only threw maybe 10 passes each for the entire regular season.

Oh okay thanks. I thought you're allowed to play in 4 games and still have the redshirt? I guess you're saying they didn't want to burn it early? I see. Regardless though, yeah we need more of a sample than just 10 passes lol. Hopefully this year we can blowout more teams early and let the backups get in game reps.

Yes try to bring in the best available especially if they’re game proven. Sorry but unless you’re sure Nickel is a stud you don’t pass on an opportunity with a proven arm. Sucks to live that portal QB to portal QB life but if the rest of the roster is built up to support it then why not?

We are pretty relevant now, we are known for paying recruits. Which is supposed to look bad through media only when we do it. And we are tier two, OSU and Texas about to run cfb for a good while. We will be good but always falling short until we land the prospects they land. Unless some miracle comes about and our lower rated guys play above their ranking. And we need a lot of them to like Cole at DE, Simpson at DT. They have to play passed their ranking.
People outside this little psychotic section of the fanbase don’t see Miami the way we do

We are a joke to most big programs BUT we are relevant right now because of Cam and now because of all the money we dumped into a polarizing QB1

We really can fully embrace the boogeyman vibe or we can just continue to be a clown program that’s throwing money around

Needless to say it’s a big season for Mario

If we win big with Carson Beck as QB1 it’s a massive middle finger to everyone
