Am with you on the positional piece of the miss. The bigger issue that is significant is another elite local kid choosing to leave. It's become cultural for them to do so which we understood more under previous coaches knowing they weren't very good which makes it a harder pill to swallow under Mario knowing he's an elite recruiter that actually can keep them home but isn't.
so far two local five stars (whether we were super high on Russell or not we still recruited him hard) went elsewhere. not a good look especially when you see guys like JJ balling out in OSU, Cooper did at Bama, Cook at FSU, etc.

Personally, I don’t know why anyone in their right mind would share any information with CIS readers on the open board. DM’s I get but there’s nothing but abuse coming back from someone or someone’s at some point. I wouldn’t tell youze guys **** if I were any of these guys but to each his own.

Yeah but the 5 star type locals is what I'm referring to. And the example you gave of most of our wr commits being OOS only shows we do better going that route. And for safeties, which local safety prospect really looks all that great this cycle ?

We dont have a safety committed lol

I can list 3 dbs i would take over cortez redding
they must have cut a ton of trees down in S Fla....
3 of the top 10 wr stat leaders in the ncaa last year were from south florida specifically.

It appears everyone is still playing catch up.

OH yea Xavier restrepo was top 15 as well. Jacorey Brooks went for 1k yards an 9 tds landing him int he top 30

You can still get good dbs and wrs down here regularly. Guys we didnt recruit for example wind up at places like Mizzou, Auburn, FSU.

I like the current wr class though. I would like 1 s.fla kid in there though if we were taking 4.

So how is he messing up all these recruitments and nothing is being done about it? Mario is cool with it?
Mario is loyal. Mario is at times his own worst enemy as well. Thinks he’s Saban in how he grinds coaches down.

In many ways NIL has kind of killed Mario. Mario was a bagman for Nicky. That’s how he locked up Amari cooper among others. He’s a relentless recruiter but he was a tier one bag closer as well. Now everyone has money, soon to be a lot of money… This year has to be the year

It depends. There are 7 million ways the season plays out, you have to analyze the whole thing.

On the surface, 9 wins = not good.

But what if we lose to ND by 1 on a FG late, we lose to UiF by 2 on a missed chip shot FG, we go 7-1 in the ACC with one loss being to Pitt in a one-score game, we go to Charlotte, beat Clemson by 10 who is ranked #2 at the time, win the ACC, get a first-round bye, win the quarterfinal playoff game, and lose to Alabama in an instant classic in the semifinals?

Is that not a successful season? Of course it is. 9-3 regular season, 11-4 final record, ACC Champions and made it to the "final four". It's not what we want...we want a natty and that's the end of it. But after how truly average this program has been and how we literally didn't even try to be competitive for 20 years, yes, that's a very good season. That's why all the projection stuff is kind of silly, and I'll be the first to say I participate in it. It's how we get through the off-season. But the season is not 100.0% lead-pipe definitively defined by number of regular season wins and the determination is not made at the end of the regular season.

There's a ton of context here that isn't necessary. If UM wins the ACCCG (something we have never done), thereby getting us into the playoff (another thing we've never done), and we don't embarrass ourselves in the playoff, then it's a successful season regardless if we go 9-3 in the regular season. I'd hope we could all agree on that much.

The season is set up perfectly as far as the schedule goes

I just laugh whenever I read people talk about how difficult it is but to each their own. It’s not an easy schedule that’s for sure

Notre Dame and UiF. A tough November with 5 games and 3 on the road

Either it’s same old same old with Mario or we get over the hump

I think the questions about him have already been answered last year but he can prove people wrong this year

He’s been here longer than Diaz but Manny still shoulders the blame from some fans?

I hated Manny as the coach here but that’s wild
This is a verbatim quote from somebody in this very thread and he is not the only one that I have read this same sentiment:

"Im not holding Mario accountable for 2 decades of sucking."

Two things can be true at the same time:

Mario made things worse when he got here

Mario has us getting better each year

I deal with marketing agencies and vendors every day that feed me the same line of **** trying to twist and turn numbers to fit an agenda. I get how it’s done.

Mario wins the ACC this year and/or makes noise in the playoffs while showing the 2024 recruiting class is legit…then I’ll be the first person to say I was wrong

Manny Diaz got absolutely railroaded by Blake James and he is now just a whipping boy for the rest of time.

He’s a great defensive mind and a good football coach. Corny as ****, and it remains to be seen if he can RUN a program, but Blake James is the monster who put us in this mess.

There is no way in god’s green earth that Manny Diaz should have gotten his first HC at a serious P5 program. Let alone Miami. We hired him away from Temple. TEMPLE. Which would have been his first gig.

He was in over his head and was a lamb for slaughter. I need less Manny slander and more Blake James animosity.
