He learned from his boneheaded mistakes and has a guy to help with clock management / analytics. I still don’t like how they handled GT last year passing on fg’s. He got desperate and GT forced him into playing more aggressive than we should have
TrumpyCane going to play devil's advocate

We played that aggressive pretty much all season, we must have gone for it on 4th and short 95% of the time

We all beat this one to death in the week/weeks after that game, but I had no issues at all with Mario's strategy in the GT game. You had the literal #1 offense in America and a terrible defense. It was the 10th game of the season, Mario knew what he had at that point. The strength of your team, BY FAR, is your offense.

4th and 3 on the GT 23, you're getting the ball out of the half and there's about 2:30 left, I'm fine putting the ball in your Heisman candidate's hand in a 14-10 game.

Coming out of the half, you've got a 4th and 1 from the GT 39, that's a 100.0% go situation, it's just the call was awful. That's on Dawson, we were I think 100% conversions running the ball on 4th and 1. Smash Martinez in there and keep the drive going, but the go/kick decision was 100% correct.

4th and 6 from the 12 with about 10 minutes to go, down by 12. That's a clear "go" as well. You can't kick a FG to make a 2 score game a 2 score game. We'd have killed him, and rightfully so.

I also think he deserves credit for the 4th down on the last TD drive, we had a 4th and 8 from our own 25, and he went for it down 12 with 8 minutes left. Not every coach would do that IMO, and more importantly, Mario Cristobal a few years ago probably wouldn't have.

But for all this, the one that was wrong was kicking the FG against Cuse. Like we all said, it really wouldn't have mattered because they were just playing against air that whole game, so even if we go and don't get it, we're not getting a stop, but you have to realize your best chance is with the ball in #1's hands, and not with your defense anywhere near the field.

So I was totally in unison with him on GT, Cuse was not good. But IMO for the entire season, overall, he was a much better gameday coach than we've seen previously. He's definitely learning. Finally, but it is happening.

If Tony Montana was allowed to launder money through NIL, we still couldn't compete with Texas oil and agriculture money
We wouldn’t lose many recruits though. That 80’s & 90’s COKE MONEY was plentiful. Just saw an article a farmer in one of those Central or South American countries. Just found 600 Mil buried on his land and turned it over to authorities.

so he gave away 600mm? Geez his wife must love him for that

100%. Plus, the way that we played into GaTech's slowdown game.

As a coach you get a feel early a game is going to be a dogfight on top of knowing the opponent you’re playing tends to give us good games. On top of that it was obvious what their gameplan was from the rip using two qb’s.

What you’ve done previous weeks goes out the window . Every game is its own story. Which is why I hate analytics so bad in football. Just because we walked a razor previous weeks and lived doesn’t mean it’ll work a month later. Like I said it was obvious what GT was doing. They were trying to extend the game like an overwhelmed boxer who knew they could get knocked out if they get too aggressive. So they just kept extending the game.Playing very conservative on D and forcing Cam to get greedy. Which worked . They played bend but don’t break and we refused to nickel and dime them and running the ball. More insulting they had a qb with no arms running the same plays over and over . Then brought in a qb who literally told you when it was a pass.

It was JV level coaching by our entire staff. Both sides and the head coach. Passing on any points in a game like that was just the cherry on the whole f’d sundae they produced as a staff. Then lose by 3 points lol. The only thing missing was Dean Smith on the GT sideline putting up the four fingers lol. Just another red flag that some refuse to acknowledge.

This is completely correct.

Past outcomes are predicated on different opponents and different strategies. They are not a guarantee of similar outcomes.

We were locked into a slowdown low-scoring game of attrition. POINTS ARE AT A PREMIUM. I understand the lure of "4 additional points", but you have to try to score every time down to shift the pressure onto GaTech. If you don't score, then they have no additional pressure when THEY don't score. But every FG we put up would have tightened the screws.

I know we came back against Cal. But it was a mistake to believe that if we ONLY had the last drive, we would also beat GaTech. Then Cam fumbled.

Brother I just posted on that lol. The way our staff got schooled by the most obvious gameplan in history. An elementary level gameplan put our staff in a pretzel. It reminded me some of Randy against OSU in a particular bowl game I won’t mention . Kept two safeties deep knowing krenzel was running a qb draw on third down from a spread formation. I didn’t intend on hijacking the thread with a comment I made in passing. Back to crying about the rb going to Texas.

It’s year 4. It’s his players. It’s his 3rd defensive staff. No more excuses.

the people in power are okay with mediocrity if its by the guy they chose. the fans want to win no matter who the coach is esp when you have a huge price tag and keep price gouging season tickets
You are completely out of touch if you think the powers that be are OK with mediocrity anymore. I mean, completely out of touch! This isn’t the Donna Shalala crew anymore, all those bums are gone now. The leadership at UM wants to win and win big and that’s what they expect. Your post is completely detached from reality of what the powers that be want at UM now.

We lost by 5.

Final was 28-23.

I’m Colombian and my father told me back in the 80’s “they’re going to be finding buried money in Colombia for the next 50 years”.

I thought he was crazy.

The issue with money is that if it’s not in the bank it’s hard to hide. It’s also a magnet for bad sht to happen.

Put yourself on this man’s position. He’s a farmer in rural Colombia where the people are literal dirt poor and the Marxists guerillas patrol the streets and kidnap people at will. There are also paramilitary groups and the Colombian military and local police as well.

That 600million is a suicide pact if you take it. Imagine John Wick 2 with everyone trying to kill you but instead of being John wick, your an old ahss man with a machete in the jungles of Colombia. But you’re not getting chased by hitmen. You’re being hunted down by your neighbors, family, 2 left wing guerilla armies and rogue cops.

1milli in Benjamin’s weights 44 lbs. Dude is gonna need a lot of help to carry and hide 600 million!! And as they say “3 people can keep a secret if 2 of them are dead”.

I think given the situation he did the right thing.

Also, this actually happened to some Colombian soldiers like 20 years ago. They were conducting an operarion and noticed they were in a minefield. While trying to crawl their way out of it, they accidentally found several blue barrels filled with cash.
They made a movie about it.
The translation of the title is totally wrong. The literal translation is “dreams don’t cost anything”.

And they easily could’ve scored again and just fell down and took knees to kill the clock. I see both arguments but at the end of the day the defense is why we lost that day (shocker)

3rd and 8 and you let a jet sweep get to the outside on you. I need a drink.
we lost by 5 bc of the game they played. they out coached the **** out of us that game with their method. limited possessions. it was never gonna be a blowout bc of the way they played the game,

For sure. And his points about being outcoached are beyond valid. It was disgusting. We lost to a QB with one arm.

But specifically on the 4th down decisions, Mario batted 1.000.

The only one that could be remotely debatable was the 4th and 3 from their 26 late in the first half.

But we went 1-4 on 4th down in the game. 2 of the 3 we missed were 100.0%, clear "go" one hundred times out of 100 decisions.

On that last fumble it looked like Arroyo came back to him open and Jacolby broke wide open at mid field.

They showed the Cuse GANE last night and I was 🤬🤬. Rehashing those 2 games last year just sends me through the F’ING ROOF. It’s like how many times do we have to go through this?
