2026 Derrek Cooper 5* RB/ATH from Chaminade Commits to Texas

Hard to say this far out. They are still going to try and flip Cooper if he commits to Texas. I don’t see the contract being an issue there if he changes his mind.

This isn’t the main reason (we need to win more and recruit better), but I heard Cooper likes Texas’s depth chart better next year. They have missed more than I thought at that position.
Didnt they beat us out a cycle ago for the IMG kid Jerrick Gibson? This boy and his momma like most of the high profile kids and their mommas and poppas look for any excuse to not be a part of UM. Recruiting vets already know…

Between CJ Baxter, Jerrick Gibson & Christian Clark, who does he think he'd be starting over, assuming QuinTrey Wisner also declared at the end of the season?

Other than Lyle, Miami doesn't have any RB that would qualify as a stone-lock to be RB2. Obviously Pringle is there, but he's likely gonna shirt this season & will still have to compete for his spot on the Depth chart next year just as much as DCoop would.

The pathway for early playing time at RB next year (2026) is much easier at Miami than Texas currently.

Unless... Nah... Don't tell me Fletcher isn't gonna declare?
Yeah idk how you look at our depth chart and think there wouldn't be 100 carries to be had even as a true frosh much easier than at other programs. Your not really going to get menu to programs that would actually have a more appealing RB roster to join imo.

My honest opinion I don't want this kid if the price is too much. Use his money on something else if you ask me. Miami should be looking for speed at Runningback. This kid is fast, but I would rather use his money elsewhere if we want to win a Championship.

Depth chart? Fletcher leaving after this season and Lyle will be gone season after that. Texas got wisner Baxter for 2 more years, Gibson lol. He would play at Miami faster

The pickings are slim at this point. Whatever money they saved on Cooper it’s not like they can reinvest it back into anybody. Most top Targets at all The key positions are committed, and the strategy of trying to flip people didn’t lead to squat last year. Not sure why this year would be any different, but who Knows at this point.

they have had for the last 30 years and havent won ****

This is not true at all. Lol

1. Texas won the Natty in 2005, played for another in 2009, & have recently been back to back CFP participants.
2. While it’s true UT’s classes has outranked ours over the past 25 yrs, it’s also true we’ve held our own more than you think:

2000: UT #6 / Miami #7
2001: Miami #8 / UT #11
2002: UT #1 / Miami #5
2003: Miami #4 / UT #8
2004: Miami #3 / UT #9
2005: Miami #9 / UT #13

2006: UT #6 / Miami #12
2007: UT #3 / Miami #13
2008: Miami #1 / UT #8
2009: UT #6 / Miami #16
2010: UT #2 / Miami #14
2011: UT #4 / Miami #33
2012: UT #2 / Miami #10
2013: Miami #14 / UT #17
2014: Miami #12 / UT #17

2015: UT #10/ Miami #27
2016: UT #7 / Miami #22
2017: Miami #12 / UT #25
2018: UT #3 / Miami #8
2019: UT #3 / Miami #27

2021: Miami #11 / UT #15
2022: UT #5 / Miami #16
2023: UT #3 / Miami #7

Cmon D, you’re smarter than that. “Depth chart” is a lame pretext for not wanting to go to Miami. Lets face it, he’s got people in his camp pushing him to these OOS schools.

Give me a Runningback that can turn 4 yards to 80 yard TDs. Miami main focus needs to be guys who are homerun threats. If this kid is that okay pay him. If not find one. Which I bet we can find one who is a lot cheaper.

I put out a stat regarding how many players by position that Mario has sent to the league. Everyone focused on the big 0 for the DT position, but seemed to have glossed over the 1 at the RB position. That came just this season w Damien Martinez in the 7th Rd.

So let me expand the scope further:
Since 2015, RBs sent to the NFL by team:
Miami: 6*
-Damien Martinez (7th Rd)
-DeeJay Dallas (4th Rd)
-Travis Homer (6th Rd)
-Mark Walton (4th Rd)
-Marquez Williams (7th Rd)*
-Duke Johnson (3rd Rd)

*Williams was designated as a FB

Texas: 6
-Jaydon Blue (5th Rd)
-Jonathan Brooks (2nd Rd)
-Keilan Robinson (5th Rd)
-Bijan Robinson (1st Rd)
-Roschon Johnson (4th Rd)
-D’Onta Foreman (3rd Rd)

Here’s the difference: 5/6 Texas RB draftees from the past decade are all from Sarkisian while 1/6 of our RB draftees r from Mario. To further complicate matters, & I highlighted this in another thread when Sark was hired: He has a RB friendly system. If u don’t think he’s not leveraging TF about of his RB -> Success Rate + UT’s $$, then we’re not paying attention.

HOPEFULLY, we have something in our back pocket to come out on top in this recruiting battle. Again, from an optics standpoint, we need it (pause).

When NIL started I remember Texas landing a whole elite OL class. It was a matter of time before they rose back up especially with their trench recruiting.

Homie, I was literally one of, if not the 1st one to sound alarms about NIL. I specifically said be careful what u wish for b/c w/o any parameters or guidelines, all this will do is incentivize bag schools to be even more aggressive. Yes, we’ve landed a highly ranked player here or there; but, the vast majority r being bought by schools that have exponentially more resources than we do.

Hence, y from the jump I’ve called for reforms. It’s putting a wider gap between the haves & have nots. I don’t go by class rankings, I go by avg. recruit rankings, & the data shows the bag schools r eating the avg. recruit rankings alive since the advent of zero guidelines NIL.

Give me Texas’s trend the last 4 years over ours any day. They’re loading up and don’t seem to struggle bringing in DT’s and WR’s.
