Is Mario just our Scott Frost?
I think he’s better than frost at Nebraska. I think, as I’ve said, that he at least stabilized or stabilizes the program and while that’s necessary, at the same time it’s less than expected given the resources allocated. I think it will help us in our next coaching search in 4-5 years.

At some point you gotta over spend to keep the elite playmakers home. Pay the suck tax

We’ve missed on all the big names on the DL and probably not getting Keys/Russell. Allocate the money to him and get it done
And what if it doesn’t matter how many zeros?

Does anyone on our staff believe that anyone in this year’s class is an absolute can’t miss prospect besides cantwell?

I’m only pointing this out because many on here have said we have a top 3 nil budget.
So if hats the case then there are several scenarios.

1: The staff isn’t gonna pay top dollar unless they feel the dude is a can’t miss prospect like cantwell. So in their eyes neither JJ or Brown were worth the squeeze and lower rated players are just as good at a fraction of the cost.

2: They feel that the money schools are saying they’re going to pay isn't gonna happen for reasons stated in other threads.

3: They’re hoping that the season will play out and have confidence that we are gonna go on a run to the playoffs and it will change some minds.

4: Maybe we do have a “legit” top 3 nil budget. We just don’t have a top 3 pay play collective or promised revenue sharing agreement like big or sec schools are promising.

5: The way our savings and checking accounts are set up………umm…. the money has to go to the savings first and then……..

6: We have the money. But kids don’t have the same orange and green glasses as we do and the negative recruitment is at an all time high.
In other words UM is a great place to visit but they wouldn’t want to live here until we at least make the playoffs and start beating top 10 teams like a 13 year old beats his sausage after discovering corn hub.

6: Our retention budget was underestimated and Horton likely took us by surprise. The suck tax also applies to dudes already on our team. Just like a player might take a little less money to go to a frontrunner, it also might take a little more than you originally thought to stop your players from being poached by those same front runners. Especially when you don’t make the playoffs and playoff teams come calling for you.
Be prepared to lose quality players to the portal if we don’t win the acc.

7: all of the above
