2026 Derrek Cooper 5* RB/ATH from Chaminade Commits to Texas

If we miss here, it’s a massive failure. Would basically assure a second straight HS class outside of the top 10. I don’t see a path to top 10 without Cooper.

Mario was brought here to get top 5 classes. 2 straight outside the top 10 would be significant cause for concern. No way to spin it, especially considering we are high level NIL spenders.

A miss here should lead to a real evaluation of what is going on within this entire organization and regime.

FIFY
Cause if we can’t win anything worth a ****, and can’t win battles like this, then what’s the point?

The offense was bad prior to injuries . Really bad. The Gattis hire was atrocious and was the first domino in a bad year. In spring I posted the offense was having issues and the receivers couldn’t get separation. Lack of spacing and schematics had a big hand in that.
For the life of me. I could never understand that hire. WTH did Mario see in him? What did he say in that interview that amazed him. Knowing what type of offense Michigan ran. They tried that spread uptempo with Rich Rod and the fans hated it.

Hopefully moms just upping the bag at this point… if she’s been following our recruiting she knows we’re desperate

I agree with this too but getting boat raced in year 1 doesn’t ding you overall as a coach, to me. And that’s any coach, I wanted Mario here but I’m not a blind homer. And I’m obviously not putting Mario in this breath, but we all know the Saban year 1, Kirby year 1 ****. I actually started to acknowledge the cracks way more in year 2. Year 1 for me in a change this drastic is a total wash. Again, just for me. If you think his future success can be seen on day 1, I’d respect that opinion. The games do count. But I just don’t share the opinion.

The GT game and Louisville games in Year 2 were much more concerning to me than MTSU in Year 1.

Yeah, for me that Manny team wasn't just bad athletically, it was rotten culturally. Lashlee hid so many holes. And I'm not putting it all on Manny, either, because we didn't/couldn't match the top programs for top talent. The whole program was just crap.

At the same time, as everyone is saying, Mario makes way too many MEs for someone at his level. He is the hardest worker, the relentless recruiter, but a lot of that energy is wasted with dumb decisions. I do like the team now despite a few obvious holes.

But man, we just can't keep missing on these recruits, especially the locals. It would be one thing if we evaluated them and decided they weren't worth it. But we WANTED Johnson and Russell. We cannot lose Cooper, as well.
