2026 Derrek Cooper 5* RB/ATH from Chaminade Commits to Texas

I’d argue that the contingent that went after Martinez was the pro Fletcher crowd. Fletcher is a decent back who will get his in the ACC. I don’t believe he is a true RB1 and Lyle is better. He does bring certain things you like to the position though and think eventually he is a day 3 pick, maybe even after this year. His lack of agility and vision, are his biggest drawbacks IMHO. When career here is over, I think we will all look back on it as being a successful career all in all.
People on here seem to think that being a more “powerful” back somehow disqualifies you from being a true RB1 — and that just isn’t true. I tend to agree that Lyle is the better back, but Fletcher is without a doubt RB 1A/1b material. We have one of the best duos in college football, and it’s no coincidence that other programs have tried to tamper with them.

And the “poor vision” criticism of Fletcher? I tend to disagree with that take but that's just me. Fletcher is going to have a great career here at Miami, and I genuinely believe he’ll succeed at the next level

You put words in my mouth with that first line, if you are in fact referring to me there. Martinez was a power back every bit a true RB1.

Martinez was a finished product, time alone he should be better than Fletcher. Let's circle back after he's a senior.

I am not saying anything other than compare Martinez soph year to Fletcher.
Are you thinking Martinez was a senior last year? Because Martinez had nearly twice as many yards as a sophmore.

This offense needs "system" RBs - those that are comfortable and good at running between the tackles.

Not every highly ranked or stud RBs would be successful here.

Anyway, whichever staff/school makes mom feel most comfortable is where he will go. I suspect, based on my interactions (years ago) with them, he will end up at Miami. Education matters to mom.

Yea we definitely do but sometimes the hate or lack of patience for a player developing is annoying.

I can see Fletcher going 3rd or 4th round. He'll test faster in the 40 than Martinez did IMO
Ironic saying the lack of patience is annoying and then making claims based on nothing but speculation

Why do we do that? Like the people setting up Bell for failure claiming he has first round potential

Or the people insisting on telling us Lofton is the best player on the team?

That’s what I find annoying personally

Would love to see Dawson diversify our run calls and help our RBs out a little. Loved the first TD Fletcher had against Florida then we never saw the play again.
Agreed. There’s no way Mario hasn’t asked him to diversify his run scheme.

I said that in 23 about the pass attack when he called that motion inside out route to J George on the goal line against A&M and then didn’t see it again until against BC late in the season.
