2026 Derrek Cooper 5* RB/ATH from Chaminade Commits to Texas

Agreed.

We are a Tier 2 program now which in and of itself is an achievement from where we had fallen. But there is still a massive gap between us and OSU, UGA, Texas and Bama.

And the reality is we will never be able to match the resources they have. It’s impossible, so those 4 teams in particular will always have a massive advantage over us - especially now that they have adjusted their NIL offering to meet and exceed ours.

We’ve GOT to make it to the ACCCG and CFP AND pump 10 kids into the league every year. That has to be our equalizer like it was back in the day.

Forget about staff relationships and promise of PT. With the transfer portal, none of that even matters any more.

If bags are equal, we’ve got to show that we will win and get you to the league. Otherwise, it’s going to be tough sledding for 5 stars who aren’t OL or TE.
Like a podcaster that everyone hates said (and I agree) Michael Irvin doesn’t come to Miami in 2025. We won’t pass those teams without those players and those types in bulk (pause) don’t come to UM. It is what it is, what we saw in the past will not happen again.

Our relevancy stems from being underachievers. I think Mario agrees with me because he has signed a 5th year senior at QB 2 years in a row. He is looking year to year to win. We aren't getting closer to building an osu, Texas Bama, Georgia style roster.
Come on, Cway. You know better than that. You don’t just rise from the depths of where we were and in 4 short years negate 20 years of failures to be toe to toe with schools that have been building their programs the entire time.

The rebuild is going to take longer for us to atone for our sins as a program.

I honestly don’t know if it’s even doable for small programs in today’s CFB.

This. My man - this.

I just don’t see it. Not in today’s CFB. Every 3-4 years we look for new coach X to take us to the promised land, but they all fail. And the ones who could do it would never take the job because they know they can’t win big here.

I just don’t see it. It’s going to be the 4 you mentioned for the foreseeable future.

Miami is viewed as a joke nationally. The rebuild doesn’t take 4 years. When teams like TCU, Indiana, Washington, SMU, Arizona State can elevate immediately with little to no history of football then the whole argument is null. I dont care about what happens the year after. If we went from the national title game to another 10 years of mediocrity then so be it. Some of you act as if once we finally climb out of the depths of **** then it's all uphill from there.

Cfb in 2025 is year-year unless you are a perennial contender. We aren't close to that level of talent so what we all should be hoping for is a surge from time to time. What mediocre teams are in the hunt every year? Outside of the usual suspects all the other teams rotate in and out of contention. This isn't the Miami we grew up watching this is the Miami that hasn't been a factor in college football for 20+ years.

Washington and Arizona state have no history of football? lol
TCU neither?

The five schools you named will absolutely not be annual playoff contenders. They will do just like did in 2013, 2017 and last season - have one good season and then fall back. So they have not rebuilt their programs. They had a lucky year or two - just like Minnesota.

I agree with your second paragraph.

Yea that’s why big names won’t take the job they know the attractive jobs are the ones with infinite resources. And that’s exactly who they will go up against in the trail. And the only way to win a natty and be dominant is to win those off season battles. All this x and o sh don’t mean anything when you go against top tier talent. You could be an offensive genius and get smoke like Lane Kiffin vs UGA. They lose 9 out of 10 times to them, I don’t want UM to be that corny school that has a 10% chance of winning and hoping they win. I did not grow up watching a UCF type team, I grew watching hall of famers destroy their opponents, now those hall of famers are on other teams…..and I’m jealous as **** of it.

If you would have asked younger me if this was UMs future I would have laughed in your face. But now we are here and it doesn’t feel good. Pause

Washington won a championship 35 years ago they were irrelevant in football.
Arizona State has won 2 conference championships in 30 years
Tcu has done what exactly, idgaf about 100 years ago? These schools aren't perennial contenders. What is your point of contention? You think the spirit of Eric ****erson is propelling smu?

Smu has 4 seasons with fewer than 3 wins and finished below .500 in 8/20 years is that not worse?

Washington has had 7/20 years finishing below .500 including 0-12 is that not worse?

Arizona state had consecutive 3 win seasons and I didn't even mention the sanctions is that not worse?

Our goal is a lucky season. I know the board discusses real teams as if that is our league but those are our real contemporaries.

It’s the offseason so I get it but man… yall don’t get exhausted doing this **** haha
That’s how it is around here, i saw a post saying missing cooper is an Indictment to the future for Miami’s program lol …that’s peak offseason right there

I don't think ppl realize how bad that room becomes if Beck becomes unavailable at any point.

*Edit: They realize but is definitely IGNORING it.
Let me repeat, most teams are screwed if QB1 goes down. Most backups are marginal or heralded recruits being indoctrinated into a system. Could also argue between Ward and Beck that it’s the best QB situation we’ve had since the days of Bernie, Vinny and Co. Potentially 2 first rounders in back to back seasons. Mario has attempted to strengthen the position by spending huge sums in the portal. Portal QBs are the way it’s done in today’s game - check out last year’s playoff rosters and this season’s top projected teams. May need to hit portal again in offseason, depending how Nichols develops. Says where the program is at that we’re competitive in the portal.

Portal qb is the smartest way to go if you plan to get the best. And it’s best because you have legit cfb film not HS film to go off of. Cause QB is a difficult position to evaluate still. They can look all world in HS and be complete cheeks in college, and the coaching gets the blame when in fact it’s probably the initial evaluation everyone got wrong.

And they’re expensive asf while likely riding the pine for a couple years.

I think Mario was hoping to get more out of last season and stop some of the negative recruiting with at least an acc chip with cam.

Making the playoffs would’ve definitely made talking sht about us not as believable.
Unfortunately, other coaches can just say “see more of the same. Don’t waste your talent down there”.

This program and our coach is in a corner and he’s gin a have to coach his way out of it.

If we don’t make the playoffs or get at least one or 2 dudes in the first round, some players on this team are gonna bounce.
