Tough to win at Vandy.

Franklin's success was a one in a million shot, and there's never been a HC there win like he did, and likely there won't be again. You could have a staff with Don Shula, Howard Schnellenberger, and Vince Lombardi on it, and Vandy would still go 2-6 in SEC conference play every year for the next 10 years. Vandy should be in the ACC anyways, with Duke, Wake, UM, etc., not ****ing around in the sewers with the Ole MIss' and Auburns of the world. It's beneath them.

But, putting that aside .... Derek Mason knows defense and is an excellent DB coach. Having been at Vandy and Stanford, he knows what it's like to be at a private school.

He'd be the best position coach at that spot in years, and he would be up there with guys like Dave Campo and Chuck Pagano.Would be a major upgrade over Mike "just took a" Dumph.

But it's moot. He's not coming to UM to coach DB's. Next season he could end up as a Group of Five HC, but more likely as a coordinator at a major school, ..... or even at Alabama as another one of Saban's "analysts."

He's gonna have to go the NFL route after Vandy because Coordinator positions in college ball require relationships or like kind. If the schools don't hire them then they probably won't get a college job.

Not a bad idea. Would get more bag for the buck in recruiting and defensive coaching.
