Dental Question regarding 8 year old.

Reminds me of my grandmother's tooth. She never got hers fixed. For the record, she never forgot the girl who bounced the ball off her head causing her to chip her tooth. Her name? Ima Hogg. No kidding.

I know this is off topic, but my 8 year old son chipped his front top tooth. This happened about two hours ago and we'll be visiting a dentist tomorrow.

Has any parent had this happen and what should I expect or do to have it corrected as perfectly as possible? I'll be damned if he has a screwed up looking front tooth. Any dentists here?
My very back upper right tooth is very much chipped. If it doesn't strike a nerve, and doesn't cause any pain, you likely don't have to do anything.

Cosmetically, this should be easy to fill in.

From the Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery perspective, hopefully the tooth does not require root canal therapy. If your dentist believes it does, may I strongly suggest that an endodontist (root canal specialist performs the procedure). Best of luck and please post the outcome for this unfortunate incident.

Yes, unfortunately. I'm a shook as can be over this. Broke my heart a little even though it's not life threatening or anything. He says people will make fun of him, etc.
It’s sucks bad today but the champ will be fine in time. I had a 2 year old shatter a tooth on a rock and have a gap for 5 years after, it wasn’t a thing unless we made it a thing. I also had to have a filling on a front tooth that was pretty jacked up at the time, you can’t tell a thing now.

Prayers for the kiddo, and for you.

Thanks, I'll certainly give the dentist a side eye and refer back to this if need be.

He was most certainly destined for braces one day. I'm so f'ing annoyed about this, but don't care a bit about the cost. I just don't want a dentist to pull a fast one, but to get it right.
Tough waters to navigate. It's hit or miss with adequate dentistry....

They put some medicine on it, also acts as somewhat of a sealant / numbing agent.

The tooth isn't fractured, but we go back next Wednesday to get it filled. Waiting to make sure they don't have to do a root canal and that the tooth itself is fine besides the obvious chip.

Longer term, as he ages, who knows. Wants to see how the mouth fills out braces, etc.

Keep us updated. Praying for little man, and his pops.

Temporary fix, just filled it and while it may have to be redone at some point, it looks normal. He'll eventually have braces and afterwards a veneer on top for longevity. Thanks for all the advice and optimism when it happened.
