You're living in a bygone era where those "academic standards" aren't malleable when the allure of being relevant in big time college football and that big time cash is an option. Not to mention that those academic standards at certain schools were often made to be wayyyy more rigid than they actually were even in said bygone era.
I don't necessarily disagree with your G5 assertion as I think
@RozayCane mentioning USF would be a great option too. I was just initially looking at a tier below the Auburn type opening but a tier above a G5 opening and that's where you'd find GT- which I still assert would be a great fit.
