There have always been “super teams”. Celtics, Lakers, Bulls, etc. Always.

The kids? Clearly you haven’t been paying attention to the adults. They’re just as bad.

And, it’s not about being “…guaranteed of winning …”, it’s seeing through the bull**** and the kids are doing a great job of that.

Making a bunch of mostly unrelated points to try to prove something is unsurprising coming from one of the worst posters on this board.

The 'super-teams' you mentioned were built through drafting and/or player development, not through players choosing to follow others to win easy. Not sure what the heck you are saying.

As far as kids 'seeing through bull****.' Not sure what the heck you are talking about there either.

Anyway, it's rare that I'd even bother to answer one of your posts, but this one was particularly non-sensical.

You’re really jealous I haven’t surpassed you as the actual WORST poster. Be thankful I responded.

you are an idiot.

Been saying this. Kids in Florida ain't what they used to be. Whatever that magic was that they had in the 80's that made them great, it's gone. South Florida used to produce Michael Irvin's, now it produces Mark Pope's. Same physical skillset, totally different mentality.

It's the culture.
It still does but they go to other schools

Yes Deion is telling the true about small % of player not all (Expect for social media because it the way of the world)

Miami has suffered from a number of reason
Coaching is at the top of list . The school vs the community is another reason..Once UM stop trying to become the Harvard of the south and get back educating the local community...This one will not change..

"Too many AA'S have moved northbound"? So what's the solution, do you want the AA's to remain in poverty, crime, & violence so UM can field a "hard football team"? LOL.
Not in the slightest! I’m just saying, good things have happened to the AA community so that football is no longer one of the only ways to advance. That’s an AWESOME thing!

As south Florida has gotten more and more expensive (and Hispanic), AA’s have moved north and to Georgia/NC etc. That’s a good or bad thing, depending on how the families have adjusted.

HOWEVER - from a UM perspective, that is narrowing the pool of potential talent they can recruit from.

Stating a fact doesn’t mean you are in agreement with the causes that led to that situation.

Same height, weight, 40-time and high school rating.

The difference between Michael Irvin and Mark Pope is between the ears and heart. Irvin willed himself to greatness by working his *** off 24/7. Irvin's skills were earned, not god-given.
I don't know what any internet post says about mikey from back then. Ut whatever you're reading that says Mikey's height, weight or 40 was the same as mark popes, you should leave them a very negative yelp review. Nothing even similar about the two except south floriduh. Mike is easily 6'2 and change. Mark is 5'10 maybe 5'11 and atleast 30 pounds separated the two. You are definitely right on work ethic And what's between their ears though. Kids rarely work for **** anymore down here.

Yeah, Cleveland was doing a great job of building though the draft and developing players when King James was there the 1st time.

The whole post was crazy. Pope was a 4.3-4.4, Irvin was a 4.7 out of high school — and I’m talking hand time.

I can buy that.

UM athletics site, ESPN, and 247 all have Mark Pope as 6'1, 175 lbs. Running a 4.5-40.

Everything on Irvin says 6'2, and that he also ran a 4.5

I believe you, though. The published heights and weights and 40 times on these players are very often bull****. So that's probably going on in this case too.

Deion makes a few interesting and salient points, especially about parenting, but where he says love for the game, I hear insatiable hunger to be dominant, to be the best. Today, for many youngsters, love is a social media icon to express approval, approval that often does not raise to the level of love. And to some extent most of us are guilty as charged. As I see it, in every generation there are kids who are hungry and kids who are not, be they who they may.

In the present context, all I care about is getting our coaches to be hungry, to prepare for every day like their livelihood is on the line today and not some time in the distant future. Accounts need to be balanced at the close of every day and not just at the end of the season. And at anytime you come up short of the standard, we might come collect your privilege card. Then get the coaches to instill that hunger in the players. Everyone knows the standard and is intolerant of those who don't come up to it. Do everything you can to support them to meet the standards, and then hold them to it.

Establishing this culture begins above the level of the coaches, although the coaches are directly accountable for the performance of the team. Other programs we all know have figured this out in spite of the present social challenges. So it can be done.

Speaking the truth. Soft parents creating soft kids. Its always been that way but now there are a lot more soft parents so they create a lot more soft kids, AND, the soft parents used to just be rich and white. Now the soft parents come in all colors and in all places on the socio-economic ladder.
I don’t even know if the projects are producing hard kids anymore Like they used to.
I remember growing up when white high schools were afraid to play black high schools because the black kids wanted it more and were tougher. Not anymore.
The black kids fromt he projects are playing for the white schools now..and leaving their neighborhood schools holding there dck

Only thing i disagree with.

Im willing to bet all my money...Kids from down here work the hardest or play more ball than any other part of the country.

I coached kids at 11 yrs old that i honestly thought played too MUCH football. These kids are/were year round with it...from season, to 7 on 7. or flag.to conditioning..with some of them also playing on travel basketball/baseball teams in between doing all this.

These kids are all currently 9th or 8th graders and majority of the ones i know will end up div 1 athletes save for grades.

You still cant drive past a park down here b4 covid without seeing random kids playing football. They still are heavy with the electronics but we still got ahuge amount of kids down here that just love to suit up every day.

What I would add is the kids in the 1980's that played for FSU or Miami loved their state. They would never have gone to a state that supported racism like Alabama, LSU and to a lesser extent Ohio. To see the modern kids play for states that support racism is sickening. I wasn't raised that way. Miami in the 1980's was not this way. But this is what we are right now. You play for Nick Saban in a state that you know supports racism is okay but the players in the 1980's knew better. These kids do it and don't care. Sometimes players need to look in the mirror and say, is this really my legacy? What I want to be known for? I went to a racist school and am proud of it?

Players on Ohio taint, bama, clemson and other top teams also love social media. Is a generation thing.
The state of Florida still produces the top players in the country.
Deion is suffering from what every old guy suffers from, in my day it was harder and tougher.
We walked miles to school uphill both ways.

That’s not true.

In the 80’s Sports Illustrated did an article where they ranked 1. CA*; 2. TX; 3. OH-Western PA; 4. Florida (I think NJ was high and they argues that they have absolutely no loyalty to NJ). After Miami began to win and coaches saw how much talent FSU had EVERYONE started recruiting Florida.

Your “racism” thesis is wrong too. Dead wrong. Noone recruited a ton of black athletes unless they were HBCUs, and that’s why HBCUs back then were so good.

*TX and CA could have been swapped…
