We have the best talent at the safety position we've had in 10 years. Jamal carter(physical freak of nature and hard hitter) , bush(best overall talent at position has NFL body) , Crawford(experience with some athleticism) , Jenkins(hard-hitter, good ability in 2013) , Jaquan Johnson (who supposedly has a great understanding of the position already and makes up for the size). My question is to the board with an already improving defense and some of the best talent on the defensive line we've had also in a long time, which player from the safety position truly steps up? And also what defensive line player dominates for us like the old days? I'm feeling a great year this year, especially with kayaa under the helm. Go canes! ||_||

jamal carter needs to learn how to tackle. he's whiffed on so many open field.

EVERYBODY on this team whiffs on a lot of tackles. Cause they're having to tackle rb's running thru gaping holes or wr's running free in the secondary catching everything wide open and in full stride.

It feels like 1999 all over again.

I even heard The Artist Formerly Known As Prince is singing the national anthem for our home opener!

While I can appreciate your enthusiasm, I can't say that I share it. Let's start with the safeties. I agree that there is some very good talent at the position but this scheme is an absolute abortion and player development as well as coaching have been abysmal in the secondary. Yes Deon Bush is an NFL caliber athlete but does that matter in this scheme? Does this staff have any idea what to do with him? He seems to have peaked as a true freshman which is an indictment of this staff. Admittedly he did play his entire Sophomore season hurt but we have yet to see him fulfill the tremendous potential he flashed as a frosh.

Jamal Carter is a freakish athlete to be sure. Yet after two full seasons, he has yet to demonstrate that he has any idea what he is doing at safety. Could he break out this year? Sure but who knows and remember, he is being coached by Paul Williams and playing in a scheme designed by Mark Donofrio with the overarching philosophy dictated by Al Golden. Yikes! Dallas Crawford is a great teammate but unfortunately on the field he is just another guy. He doesn't posses the speed or athleticism expected of UM safeties. Rayshawn Jenkins can be a very good player when healthy. He is the closest thing we have to a ball hawk but is he healthy? Jaquan Johnson is a Miami high school legend. He is said to be very instinctive and a natural football player who doesn't time well yet possesses great game speed while having an uncanny knack for making huge plays. He is also a natural leader but he is still a true freshman.

You are also correct in pointing out the significant talent upgrade in the front 4 or 3 or whatever it is. AQM, Chad Thomas, Tyriq McCord(a defacto DE), Trent Harris, Demitrius Jackson, Michael Wyche, Hurtelou, Moten, Kamalu and Coutrel Jenkins comprise the best talent we have had upfront in quite some time. A LB corps of Grace, Kirby, and Owens is nothing to sneeze at either. How will all those pieces fit together? I can't tell you. There is some good talent at safety to go along with a very experienced and talented top 3 at CB but even given all that, I have no faith that this staff can mold it into a cohesive unit.

Jenkins has shown some ability as a ball hawk. I have no idea what Johnson brings to the table in that regard but someone needs to step up and get a bunch of picks so Bush can stay at SS.

I guess your right. Like, Duke Johnson peaked coming out of high school, and Perryman, etc. Now *&%&**^.

Duke kinda did... he was healthier and Perryman was a star and left a 4 star IMO..I think he was a good LB here not GREAT

Poor guy had 100 different DL to play behind..

but yes some players got better.. but some 4 & 5 Star guys never panned out with this staff

You buy the Koolaid or make it yourself? Plenty of talent on the team, AGAI, and Dline has most talent in long time. Problem is system and coaching staff is the same. Lot more NFL draft picks being wasted is all I see. Brad is indeed a huge bright light we have sorely missed since Ken, but again Al will send our first 1st round draft pick at QB since I was young to NFL with only a pat on the back. There is a lot to be excited about but as long as Al is here it is a total waste of time because man is just a loser.

Al has no clue what to do with talented players. DP made himself what he is despite Al. Duke might had done better if he didn't have to keep crawling out from under the bus Al kept throwing him. Al does not like talent, only hard working overachievers.

I think we are loaded with talent, and it's why Golden will be fired with another mediocre season. He can't justify a 7-6 type of season.

Having all that talent isn't going to matter when they do to Chad Thomas what they did to Anthony Chickillo, play Deon Bush at corner because of depth issues created by this staff's disgraceful CB recruiting, send massive Michael Wyche on looping line stunts, and have explosive edge rushers like AQM, McCord, and Jackson constantly dropping into coverage instead of wreaking havoc off the edge.

Some never learn.

Talent requires coaching. We don't have that - especially on the defensive side of the ball. Yes, the roster is looking stronger on paper, but coaching is needed to get the players to move away from having potential at the college level to being productive - a vast sea of difference....
