At this point we are #2 in Rush Defense, #32 in Pass Defense and #1 1 in Total Defense.
We are #1 in TFL
We are tied for #1 in Sacks
I believe we are #1 in YPR(yards allowed per rush attempt) Edit. We are currently #1 in yards per rush average at .9 as in 9 tenths of a yards per run allowed. That's video game **** regardless of who we have played. I certainly don't expect to keep that pace once we start playing legit competition but Jesus that is insane.
Obviously we have not played great competition but those numbers are a very good sign nonetheless. If we are anywhere near this in a month then I will be blown away. This D was poised to shock the nation before the injuries and dismissals dammit! Who knows, we still might because outside of Gordinier, none of the injuries on defense are serious and we should be back to full strength after the bye week.
Again, regardless of competition, performances like that are not normal when you are starting 3 true freshmen linebackers, are missing 2-3 of your top DT's and your starting Viper is barely playing with his mummified arm. When Molten, Jenkins and Harris come back 100% we will be that much better. Another big key is Darrion Owens. If he can be close to 100% after the bye that will relieve the pressure a bit for the Baby Bermudas. I shouldn't even think of mentioning this but if Jermaine Grace somehow miraculously pulls a Dequan Jones................... Unfortunately, I don't think that will be God's plan for Jermaine.

I feel like if Driskell was more accurate and FAU didn't have some drops, that game could've been much closer.
Wish there was a missed tackle stat to see the difference even in these "lesser" games. Even against sub-par opponents, we are so much better in this area because of the style of play. We saw a couple of missed tackles on Saturday and I'm sure we'll see more with improved competition, but in previous years we had guys standing flatfooted and asked to fill the alley to a RB coming downhill. Angles were worse and results at least seemed worse.

Know where I can find some chopped video of the game? I know what i saw from the stands, but would like to look back to see some of those drops. There's another thread on here where I mention some weak spots in our defense and the response is it was likely due to communication or inexperience. I'm trying to get a better look at those plays. If I remember correctly, there was a slant open and simply dropped on a big 3rd down. Hard to keep track of this from the stands.
